The Sandman Season 2 is gearing up for production as creator Neil Gaiman provides a concrete update on the filming start date. Following the success of the first season, which premiered on Netflix in August, the show was officially renewed for a continuation or, as Netflix refers to it, "more episodes."

Neil Gaiman confirmed on his Bluesky account that filming for The Sandman Season 2 is set to resume on Monday, November 27 (via Whats on Netflix). The announcement comes after a hiatus due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, which paused filming in July after several weeks of shooting in June 2023.

This is awesome news for fans who have been hoping for more episodes exploring the Dreaming and Morpheus' many stories as one of the Endless. Now that production is starting so soon, there's a good chance we'll get to catch up with Dream and his siblings soon.

What we know so far about The Sandman Season 2

While officially labeled an expansion rather than a traditional Season 2, this deliberate choice suggests that the format may differ from the initial season's 10-episode structure. The decision to move away from a conventional seasonal structure could potentially allow for more flexibility in storytelling, with smaller batches of episodes and side stories. The approach aligns with Gaiman's comics, and season 2 is expected to continue adapting storylines from the source material, introducing new characters such as Delirium, Destruction, Destiny, and Wanda. In addition to that, Dream's son Orpheus is expected to make his live-action debut in the second season.

The tone and genre of Season 2 promise diversity, exploring Greek tragedy, cyberpunk, contemporary drama, and cat-and-mouse chess dynamics, as teased by director Jamie Childs. The returning cast, including Tom Sturridge, Patton Oswalt, Vivienne Acheampong, Gwendoline Christie, and Kirby Howell-Baptiste, hints at a compelling continuation of The Sandman's narrative. With Gaiman's involvement and the established success of the first season, fans can anticipate a continuation that remains true to the source material while offering fresh and intriguing perspectives.
