Today, Netflix has released a brand new trailer for its upcoming live-action adaptation of the popular anime One Piece, alongside a letter from the legendary creator of the manga series, Eiichiro Oda. The trailer was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con, just right after the grand reveal during the streaming giant's Tudum event in June.

The new trailer, which runs nearly three minutes long, features the key members of the Straw Hats, including Monkey D. Luffy (played by Iñaki Godoy), Nami (Emily Rudd), Roronoa Zoro (Mackenyu), Sanji (Taz Skylar), and Usopp (Jacob Romero). The trailer also gives us a closer look at the crew in action while establishing the plot of the series for those who haven't discovered One Piece: Luffy, an aspirational pirate who has the power to stretch his limbs, puts together a haphazard crew called the "Straw Hats" to search for the legendary treasure known as "One Piece," in order to become the King of the Pirates.

The first season of the live-action adaptation will adapt One Piece's East Blue saga of the manga and anime, and the new trailer shows Luffy's ability to stretch his limbs —similar to Mr. Fantastic of the Fantastic Four, thanks to a magical fruit known as Gum-Gum. We also get a glimpse of a villainous clown named Buggy (Jeff Ward) who can split off his body parts that he can manipulate independently.

It's still unclear if Netflix has any plans to adapt the other One Piece arcs, but given the franchise's huge fanbase and Oda's approval, it looks like there's a good chance the streamer will renew the show for multiple seasons.

Alongside the epic new trailer, One Piece series creator Eiichiro Oda also shared a letter expressing his thoughts on the upcoming live-action series ahead of its August 31 premiere. Oda's letter reads:

“I’ll say this. There were no compromises on this show! There was so much that went into it–all of the efforts by the actors, the building of the world and the costumes, presenting things in a way that can only be done in live action, the dialogue – and the entire process of so many people putting their heads together was a festivity in and of itself. The producers and the crew are pros at live action, and frankly, they’re One Piece superfans too."

“By now I just love the production team and cast so much that I can’t wait for them to get the acclaim they deserve from everyone around the world."

All eight episodes of Netflix's One Piece Season 1 will be released on Netflix on August 31.
