One of the most memorable anime series released in 2021 is Redo of Healer, a dark fantasy anime with extreme violence and graphic depiction of gore and assault. The first season consisted of 12 episodes, and the adaptation had three different versions: a censored broadcast version, a streaming-exclusive "Redo" version, and an uncensored "Complete Recovery" version. Now, fans want to know if Season 2 is coming. Studio TNK produced the anime, which quickly drew controversy.

Based on the Japanese light novel series Kaifuku Jutushushi no Yarinaoshi or simply Kaiyori (which translates to The Healer's Do-Over: Transcendent Healing Through Insta-Kill Magic and Skill Copying) written by Rui Tsukiyo, the anime instantly drew controversy when it first aired in January 2021, and because of its mature themes, many fans believed that the series would not be renewed for a Season 2, and that seems to be case. However, Tsukiyo, the author of Redo of Healer himself, shared a tweet that sparked hope among fans for a potential second season.

Over on X (formerly Twitter), author Rui Tsukiyo said in Japanese: “I keep getting asked regularly if there will be a second season. It is impossible for the authors to reveal information before the official media, so follow the official accounts and keep an eye on them. That’s the quickest way to find out.”

It appears that some fans have been consistently inquiring about the second season of Redo of Healer, however, Tsukiyo's cautious response did not disclose any conclusive information. Nevertheless, some fans have interpreted the tweet as a positive indication.

In another tweet, he said that "if it sells well, the possibility of a second season will increase, so I'm praying that it sells well."

Redo of Healer Season 2 Renewal Status: Is the anime canceled or renewed?

As of May 2024, there is no official announcement confirming any plans for a second season of Redo of Healer anime. The last episode of Season 1 aired on March 31, 2021. Since then, Studio TNK and its staff members have remained silent, giving the impression that the project has been canceled entirely. Producing ecchi and dark fantasy anime is inherently precarious, and cultivating a devoted fan base is a challenging endeavor.

There's still plenty of source material left to adapt since the light novel series consists of nine books and the manga adaptation has 13 volumes as of August 2023, so why is the anime not getting a renewal?

The main reason contributing to the lack of renewal for Redo Of Healer Season 2 is the controversy surrounding the show since its first season. Even after two years since Season 1 finished its run, fans continue to criticize the anime's mature themes. The central theme of the anime centers on the use of sexual behavior as a means of retribution, a concept that many viewers find to be an unsuitable representation of the dark fantasy genre. Consequently, the show has been deemed by numerous fans to be an inappropriate and objectionable production.

For now, there are no clear signs that Redo of Healer is getting a second season, but at least the author did not completely shut down the possibility, so if you're a fan of the series, you might see that as a glimmer of hope.

What is Redo of Healer about?

The story of Redo of Healer centers around Keyaru, a healing magician who has been subjected to enslavement and exploitation. Keyaru is cognizant of the fact that healing magicians are unable to engage in combat independently. Consequently, he embarks on a journey to revisit his past, going back four years, with the intention of seeking retribution against those who have wronged him.

You can read the official synopsis of Redo of Healer below:

In a dark world of monsters, adventurers, and mages, some of the most gifted healers are subjugated to brute force even by the hands of their compatriots. But one mage, Kayal, gains the ability to rewind time, turn the tables, and right all wrongs.

The anime adaptation of Redo of Healer has generated controversy for to its use of sexual assault as a significant plot device. The protagonist, Keyaru, is subjected to rape by his captors and subsequently commits rape himself against a brainwashed girl named Flare as a means of exacting revenge after traveling back in time four years. The show features multiple scenes of rape and sexual assault, as well as depictions of abuse and brutality.

Despite the dark intentions of the main character, some viewers find themselves rooting for him, as they believe that his actions are justified. While the full extent of the controversy surrounding the anime is not immediately apparent in the first episode, the rape scene in the second episode is particularly shocking. Keyaru ultimately erases Flare's memory and keeps her as a companion throughout the course of the series.
