The Marvel Cinematic Universe is officially pushing back the release of Deadpool 3 as the Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman movie has been delayed indefinitely due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. When one is delayed, it has a domino effect to the other projects on schedule which leaves the other upcoming MCU movies in danger of suffering the same fate. Another film drought is expected to happen in early 2024.
In a report from Deadline, Deadpool 3 is confirmed to have been removed from the 2024 releases of Marvel Studios because of the ongoing actors strike. Deadpool 3 was scheduled for release on May 3, 2024 but with the SAG-AFTRA strike in force, the movie will not make it in time for the release date set, thus, the indefinite delay. Even if the strike could end earlier than expected, the halt to the production of the movie has immensely affected the schedule of the production and if the studio would force it to release, it may be half-cooked.
This news spells more problems for Marvel Studios as the succeeding titles after Deadpool 3 are also suffering the same fate. For example, Captain America: Brave New World still holds on to its July 26 release but with the ongoing strike, it is not yet marked safe from being delayed, too. That is, unless, Marvel Studios would pour in double the effort once the actors strike ends, then the release date could still stick.
When will Deadpool 3 release?
While there is no release date yet for Deadpool 3, should the whole calendar of the Marvel Cinematic Universe moves back due to the indefinite delay of the Ryan Reynolds movie, then it could take on the November 2024 schedule which proved to be a success for the MCU after Thor: Ragnarok and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever took up the said schedule in the previous years. It could also be a Christmas gift of Marvel Studios to the fans who waited patiently for the release of Deadpool 3 if it would get the December 2024 schedule. For now, Deadpool 3 remains indefinitely delayed.
Deadpool 3 is one of the most highly anticipated releases in 2024 with the return of the iconic Merc with a Mouth played by Ryan Reynolds and Wolverine portrayed by Hugh Jackman. The much awaited reunion of Deadpool and Wolverine on screen has been long overdue since their first meeting in X-Men Origins: Wolverine in 2009. It took 14 years to bring them back together but with the news of the indefinite delay, fans may have to wait longer for their team-up.
The SAG members are currently under strike where they aim to get favorable terms in contract negotiations for better compensation and modified working conditions after the advent of streaming platforms like Netflix, Hulu, and Max which affects the pay of the actors. Other than that, the actors also fight for the control of their images against generation through artificial intelligence.
