Today, Netlfix has announced that it has renewed its hit fiery South Korean cooking competition, Culinary Class Wars, for a second season. In the first season of the show, 80 lesser-known "Black Spoon" underdog chefs competed against Korea's 20 high-powered "White Spoon" chefs, for a grand prize of 300 million won (roughly $225,000). The two judges were celebrity chef and veteran restaurateur, Paik Jong-won, and the only Michelin three-star chef in South Korea, Anh Sung-jae.
Other than the renewal announcement, Netlfix hasn't shared any details about Culinary Class Wars Season 2, so fans will have to wait for an official release date and other surprises for the chefs joining, but we're hoping that we will see fan-favorite Black Spoon chef and Season 1 winner Kwon Sung-jun, a.k.a. Napoli Maftia make a cameo. Kwon, who specializes in pasta, risotto, and Italian dishes. ended up defeating Korean American celebrity chef Edward Lee in the final episode in a unanimous decision from the two judges to win the grand prize.
Yoo Ki-hwan, the director of content at Netflix Korea, shared a statement regarding the announcement of Culinary Class Wars Season 2:
The renewal of Culinary Class Wars shouldn't come as a surprise as the show dominated Netflix's Global Top 10 for Non-English TV Shows for several weeks during its four-week run. Hopefully, we will see the return of other fan-favorite chefs like Cooking Maniac (real name Yoon Nam-no), Auntie Omakase (Lee Mi-ryeong), and Triple Star (Kang Seung-won or Scott Kang) in Culinary Class Wars Season 2, but we'll likely see new faces compete.
All twelve episodes of the first season of Culinary Class Wars are now streaming on Netflix.
