Nearly a year after the Stranger Things finale arrived on Netflix and in select theaters, David Harbour, who played Jim Hopper, and Millie Bobby Brown, who portrayed Eleven, are preparing to work together again on an untitled Netflix project. The series moves the pair out of Hawkins and away from the supernatural threats that defined their earlier collaboration, placing them instead in a contemporary thriller built around federal work and a missing person. Their new collaboration arrives after five seasons of Stranger Things and gives both actors a chance to revisit a father-and-daughter pairing under a completely different set of circumstances.

The upcoming series has been confirmed as a spy thriller that centers on a broken family and a sudden disappearance that forces old skills back into use. Harbour plays a “disgraced FBI agent turned security expert,” while Brown plays his estranged daughter, “an FBI agent determined to follow in his footsteps,” whose vanishing act pulls his character back into the dangerous field he thought he had left behind. Few additional plot details have been released, leaving the exact mission, the nature of the disgrace, and the current state of their relationship still under wraps as the scripts continue to take shape.

Harbour recently spoke with Variety about the project and what it means to play Brown’s on-screen father again after years of working together on Stranger Things. Here's what Harbour siad:

All I can say is that we are, we do have this father-daughter dynamic that I think we play very well and are very interested in. And she’s now in her 20s, and I think in Stranger Things , we explored a lot of teen things, and now we want to explore, like, what does it mean to father someone in their 20s who’s going through all kinds of things…and what does family mean? At its core, it has an incredible propulsive engine with action and entertainment, and Jack Thorne is writing it. He’s a master, and I’m just so excited for us to start working.”

The comments confirm that the pair intend to keep the emotional core of their earlier work while shifting the age, the profession, and the stakes of the relationship they portray.

Harbour and Brown will once more appear as an on-screen father and daughter, but the storyline this time belongs to an entirely different pair of characters operating in a world of intelligence work rather than small-town police duty and otherworldly threats. The new roles place Harbour’s character on the outside of an agency he once served and Brown’s character inside that same agency, so the reunion on camera will be defined by distance, professional risk, and the question of what fatherhood looks like when the child is already an adult making dangerous choices of her own.
