Blue Lock Season 2 was originally announced after the finale of the first season back in March 2023. It was also announced that an anime feature film titled Blue Lock: Episode Nagi, is scheduled to hit theaters in Japan on June 28, 2024, with Studio Eight Bit returning to produce the film's animation.
Blue Lock Season 1 originally premiered in October 2022 and ran for a total of 24 episodes until March 2023, and Studio Eight Bit produced the animation. Japan's impressive performance at the FIFA World Cup contributed well to the popularity of the series and helped boost sales of the Blue Lock manga. Season 1 was a huge hit, and as of November 2023, the manga has sold over 30 million copies, making it one of the best-selling manga series of all time, so it's not surprising that it didn't take long for Blue Lock to get renewed for Season 2.
What is Blue Lock about?
The anime is based on the award-winning Blue Lock (ブルーロック, Burū Rokku) manga series written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Yusuke Nomura. The sports/thriller series began publishing in 2018 under Weekly Shonen Magazine, and it won the 45th Kodansha Manga Award in the shōnen category. Crunchyroll, which is streaming the first season of the anime, shared a plot description for Blue Lock:
