One of the greatest sports manga/anime series of all time, Blue Lock, has finally revealed the premiere date of its highly-anticipated second season. According to the official website of the anime, Blue Lock Season 2 is set to premiere in October 2024. To commemorate the announcement, manga artist Yusuke Nomura shared a new illustration, which you can check out below:
The second season of Blue Lock was originally announced after the Season 1 finale back in March 2023. The production team also announced an anime feature film titled Blue Lock: Episode Nagi, which is scheduled to hit theaters in Japan on June 28, 2024, with Studio Eight Bit returning to produce the movie's animation.
The anime adaptation of Blue Lock originally premiered in October 2022 and ran for a total of 24 episodes until March 2023, and Studio Eight Bit was in charge of the animation. Japan's fantastic performance at the FIFA World Cup contributed well to the popularity of the series and helped boost sales of the Blue Lock manga. The first season was a huge hit, and as of November 2023, the manga has sold over 30 million copies, making it one of the best-selling manga series of all time, so it's not surprising that it didn't take long for Blue Lock to get renewed for Season 2.
What is Blue Lock about?
The anime is based on the Blue Lock (ブルーロック, Burū Rokku) manga series written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Yusuke Nomura. The sports/thriller series began publishing in 2018 under Weekly Shonen Magazine, and it won the 45th Kodansha Manga Award in the shōnen category.
