Star Wars: Patty Jenkins Shares Update For Rogue Squadron Movie & Wonder Woman 3

Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins cites last year's writers' strikes as the reason for Star Wars: Rogue Squadron's delays.

Patty Jenkins has shared an update on the two movie projects she's been attached to: Star Wars: Roque Squadron and Wonder Woman 3. Lucasfilm and Disney announced Rogue Squadron in December 2020, with its original release date was removed from the studio's release schedule in 2022, and fans have assumed that the Star Wars movie was scrapped completely. In a recent interview, she claimed that she owes Lucasfilm a draft of the script and explains that one reason why there hasn't been any major progress on the project is due to the writers' strike last year. She also said that Wonder Woman 3 will most likely never happen.

During her appearance on Max’s Talking Pictures Podcast, Ben Mankiewicz asked the Wonder Woman director if the third installment of DC superhero franchise is done.

“Yeah, for the time being, but probably easily forever,” Jenkins revealed.

And when asked if another director would take on the movie, the filmmaker said, “No, they’re not interested in doing any Wonder Woman for the time being.”

Although Jenkins will not be developing Wonder Woman 3, she is working on a Star Wars movie, and she says that she's working on a script now. “So, when I left Star Wars to do Wonder Woman 3, and I started working on that, we talked about, ‘Well, maybe I’ll come back to Star Wars after Wonder Woman 3, so we started a deal for that to happen,” she revealed. “When Wonder Woman 3 then went away, Lucasfilm and I were like, ‘Oh, we’ve got to finish this deal.’ We finished the deal right as the strike was beginning, so I now owe a draft of Star Wars. So we will see what happens there. Who knows?”

Is Star Wars: Rogue Squadron happening?

At last year's Star Wars Celebration, Lucasfilm announced three new film projects it was developing for the franchise, which were added to the ever-expanding list of films that were supposedly still being developed. Despite Disney having set release dates for the untitled Star Wars films, there haven't been any significant updates in recent years, and Jenkins expressed her empathy over the "hard job" the studio currently faces.

"They have a hard job in front of them of, 'What's the first movie they're going to do?'" Jenkins said on the challenges. "They have other directors who have been working, but I am now back on doing Rogue Squadron. We'll see what happens. We need to get it to where we're both super happy with it."

Despite getting an official teaser three years ago, Rogue Squadron isn't officially greenlit. Jenkins went on to express her passion to direct a movie set in the Star Wars universe. “If I can do something beautiful and do something that serves that audience, I would love to do it,” she said.
