MCU fans have been wondering who bought the Avengers Tower since it was first mentioned in Spider-Man: Homecoming was released 2017. Fan speculation was rampant for years, with theories that it would be purchased by Norman Osborn / The Green Goblin or Wilson Fisk / The Kingpin. Some fans speculated that it would be the location of the Baxter Building for the MCU's Fantastic Four film before the superhero team's upcoming film was officially revealed to take place in another universe. Marvel Studios waited until Thunderbolts* to reveal who purchased the Avengers Tower from Tony Stark.
Speaking to Empire Online, Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier confirmed that Avengers Tower has been purchased by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, a.k.a. Val, and renamed it the "Watchtower". Schreier didn't reveal Val's exact intention with the purchase, but he teased, "We know what that tower means. Who’s the person you would least like to own that tower, that means so much to so many people? Can you use that as a symbol of things taking a darker turn?"
In the Marvel comic books, the Watchtower has ties into the movie's main antagonist, The Sentry. Val renaming the building into Watchtower gives credence to the fan theory that the government has created The Sentry as a new superhero with an intent to control him.
