Fuse, the author of the popular isekai light novel series That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (also known as Tensura), has announced that he is planning to end Rimuru Tempest's story soon. In the afterword of Volume 22 of the light novel series, Fuse has revealed the end of the series will likely come this year.
In the afterword of the latest volume of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime light novel series (translated by ANN), author Fuse said that he plans to end the series very soon, stating that he intended to wrap up the series with Volume 22, but, due to his editor's encouragement, decided to explore other scenarios in the series fully. This means that the end of Tensura is in sight, as Fuse revealed that the isekai series will end this year.
Fuse shared further details in a recent blog post: "As previously announced, the conclusion has been postponed. However, I have a feeling that it will be possible in the next volume!" Fuse also said that due to an uncertain schedule, he can't provide an estimated date as to when the final volume will be released, explaining, "I'm worried that there will be things I've forgotten to write in the final volume, so I'm already nervous (lol)."
The final arc of Tensura started in Volume 18 in 2019, so Fuse has been working on it for years. However, the author revealed that he's open to creating spin-offs and side stories. In the blog post, he doubled down on the sentiments, saying that he'd "...be happy to hear your opinions on the comics and spin-offs."
What is That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime about?
Fuse's That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (Japanese: Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken) light novel series, which is illustrated by Mitz Vah, is an isekai fantasy series that begins with a 37-year-old salaryman named Satoru Mikami, who's stabbed by a robber and wakes up in another world. However, the hero is reincarnated as a Slime, one of the weakest Monster classes in this fantasy world.
Tensura was originally serialized online in 2013 on the Shosetsuka ni Naro website, drawing 400 million page views. Micro Magazine later acquired the series, and published it in print in 2014.
