What happened to Rotta the Hutt?
Rotta the Hutt, a.k.a. "Pedunkee Mufkin" (translated as Punky Muffin), first appeared in 2008's Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie, whwere he was voiced by David Acord. The son of Jabba the Hutt was a 1-foot, 5-inches tall Huttlet, with greyish-green skin and orange eyes. He was secretly kidnapped by Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars. The plot to kidnap him was orchestrated by Count Dooku with help from Rotta's traitorous great-uncle, Ziro. The kidnapping was meant to discredit the Jedi Order and scuttle negotiations between the Hutts and the Galactic Republic, but the Jedi were able to rescue him.
Asajj Ventress kidnapped Rotta and took him to the planet Teth. A Jedi rescue team that included Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano traveled to that planet to rescue him. Rotta then became sick and nearly died on his way to Tatooine but survived with the help of Ahsoka. After Ahsoka and Anakin evaded Dooku, who tried to kill Rotta and put the blame on the Jedi, the Huttlet was returned to Jabba. We can expect Rotta to be a fully-grown Hutt in The Mandalorian & Grogu since the film takes place in the New Republic Era.
Jon Favreau is directing the upcoming The Mandalorian & Grogu film, which is being co-written by Favreau and David Filoni. The Star Wars film is a continuation of The Mandalorian Disney+ series, and cthe film will star Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin / The Mandalorian, and Sigourney Weaver.
Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu is set to release in theaters on May 22, 2026.
