Daniel Radcliffe might be known for playing Harry Potter but he has also been connected to a Marvel comic book hero in the past. Interestingly, the speculations have since grown stronger after Radcliffe underwent an unexpected physical transformation. So what are the chances that the Boy Who Lived has been working out to play the Marvel Cinematic Universe's version of Wolverine? Radcliffe has finally addressed the rumors.
Vanity Fair recently posted a new video featuring Radcliffe with his Merrily We Roll Along co-stars Jonathan Groff and Lindsay Mendez. In the video, the Harry Potter actor was the first to take the infamous lie detector test where he answered questions posed by Groff and Mendez.
Interestingly, Radcliffe was asked whether he started the rumor that he would replace Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, something that he immediately denied. But as a follow-up, Radcliffe was asked whether he was working out for a specific reason so he had to clarify his new body transformation.
"I got buff because I am obsessive, and I want to...you've seen my parents, they're like insane fitness people. So that's just been passed on...but no, no Wolverine. Flattered, but no," Radcliffe said.
Radcliffe's physical transformation certainly comes at an interesting time considering that Marvel Studios is planning to reboot the X-Men films and introduce the mutants into the MCU. It was even reported that although the X-Men are set for the cinematic universe, Wolverine will either get introduced much later or be recast with a new actor.
This isn't the first time that Daniel Radcliffe has been fancast as Wolverine. Fans have previously believed that the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows actor would be a perfect fit for the clawed mutant's introduction into the MCU. However, Marvel Studios has yet to confirm if they are looking for a new actor to portray Wolverine in their upcoming projects.
For now, the new Wolverine has not yet been officially announced. In the meantime, fans can still expect Hugh Jackman to reprise the role one more time in Deadpool 3. Although expectations for Jackman's return are high, director Shawn Levy previously indicated that the third Deadpool film has not yet resumed production. Still, it is currently scheduled for release on May 3, 2024.
