There is little doubt that the X-Men's Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot is currently one of the most highly anticipated projects. After all, it presents the possibility that Hugh Jackman could reprise his role as Wolverine in the new films. However, reports suggest that the mutant will not be part of the initial X-Men lineup when Marvel Studios reimagines the beloved comic book team for the MCU.

The intel comes from a trusted scooper's X account. According to the scooper, the MCU reboot will introduce the original X-Men team which does not include the adamantium-clawed mutant. This means the line-up will be led by Cyclops and include Iceman, Angel, Beast, and Marvel Girl.

This is great news for some who want to explore the original X-Men line-up as these characters have long lived in the shadow of Wolverine. The mutants could finally shine in the spotlight and own their own franchise.

But what does this mean for Wolverine? Although we have yet to get an official word from Marvel Studios, this could confirm that Hugh Jackman is setting up Deadpool 3 to be his final appearance as Wolverine after a long career.

Hugh Jackman brilliantly portrayed Logan/Wolverine in nine X-Men films spanning from 2000 to 2017. Despite Logan being initially billed as Jackman's farewell to the iconic character, the actor later confirmed his return for Deadpool 3, marking the MCU's introduction of the X-Men. There are also rumors of Jackman's appearance in Avengers: Secret Wars, where Wolverine might join a Multiversal Avengers ensemble. If Wolverine emerges post-Secret Wars, industry insiders anticipate a fresh actor taking on the role.

What to Expect in Deadpool 3

Plot details regarding Wolverine's role in Deadpool 3 are shrouded in secrecy. Jackman has clarified that the forthcoming installment will not tamper with the narrative of 2017's Logan, which was his character's initial swan song. He hinted at time travel as the mechanism for integrating Wolverine into Deadpool's timeline, possibly placing the beloved Marvel heroes within the purview of the Time Variance Authority. Deadpool 3 represents a significant milestone, being the MCU's first R-rated production and the first to unite Deadpool and Wolverine in the MCU's cinematic universe.
