Recent online speculation suggested that new footage for Grand Theft Auto VI might drop today, August 6. Instead, Rockstar Games confirmed that fresh gameplay material will arrive later this month through an exclusive partnership with Netflix. The announcement shifts attention toward a carefully timed reveal rather than an immediate trailer.

Rockstar Games has revealed that an extended look at GTA 6 will first appear on Netflix three weeks from now. The presentation is scheduled for August 27 at 3 p.m. ET on the streaming service. Viewers without a Netflix account will be able to watch the same footage on the official Rockstar Games YouTube channel and the GTA 6 website six hours later, at 9 p.m. ET.

Netflix described the collaboration as “a first-of-its-kind partnership to premiere an extended look at the next evolution in the groundbreaking Grand Theft Auto series, Grand Theft Auto VI.”

Brandon Riegg, VP of Netflix Nonfiction Series, addressed the arrangement in a statement: Grand Theft Auto reveals have become cultural moments in their own right. The anticipation and fandom around Grand Theft Auto VI is unprecedented, and we’re honored that Rockstar Games has partnered with us to debut the next part of the Grand Theft Auto story with Netflix members first. It’s a reflection of what we hope Netflix is becoming: a place where the most ambitious storytelling, from any medium, can find the biggest possible audience.

Development on the highly anticipated title from Rockstar Games has stretched across 13 years. The extended look announcement arrives after pre-orders began in June, with the standard edition priced at $80.

According to the official synopsis, the story unfolds in Vice City, USA. Jason and Lucia have long understood that the odds remain stacked against them. When a seemingly simple job collapses, the pair end up on the darker side of America’s sunniest region and become entangled in a conspiracy that spreads across the state of Leonida. Their survival depends on trusting one another more completely than ever before.

Take-Two Interactive’s Rockstar Games set the standard edition price at $79.99 on June 24. Buyers can choose either a digital download or a physical package that contains a download code rather than a disc. The Ultimate edition carries a $99.99 price tag and adds an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, and other content woven throughout the experience.

Rockstar has described the launch version as “a single-player experience set in the biggest, most immersive evolution of the series yet.” The company has not released any details about online multiplayer features for GTA 6 at this stage.
