Trademark disputes are nothing new in the entertainment industry with the logos of the companies bearing some similarities to each other that it only takes one company bringing forth a case in court for a full-blown dispute to happen. This is what the parent companies of GTA 6 and Alan Wake are going through as Take-Two Interactive, being the parent company of Rockstar Games, filed a trademark dispute in the UK against Remedy Entertainment for the usage of the letter "R" in the logo. The logos of the two companies both bear the same letter.
A trademark can either be symbols, words, or designs which stands as one of the identifications of a brand, and there are legal rights attached to its usage. A trademark dispute arises when there is an unauthorized use of the registered trademark of another, or when there are similar aspects of the trademark between two different entities which could likely lead to a confusion to the consumers. Currently, there is a trademark dispute between Take-Two Interactive and Remedy Entertainment.
What is the trademark dispute between the parent companies of GTA 6 and Alan Wake?
In a report from Respawn First, Take-Two Interactive brought a trademark case in the UK as regards the new logo of Remedy Entertainment which was revealed last year. The said logo of Remedy Entertainment in question contains the letter "R" with the word "Remedy" underneath the letter. The logo of Rockstar Games also has the letter "R" enclosed in a yellow box and with a star at the lower end of the letter. The dispute possibly arose with the usage of the letter "R" wherein there could be a likelihood of confusion between the two logos on the part of the public.
Remedy Entertainment is the company behind the famous Alan Wake game series which follows the mystery behind the crime thriller novelist who investigates his wife's disappearance. The game is a psychological thriller where the gamers can experience the intensity of the atmosphere of the game on top of the multilayered story that there is. Their most recent release is Alan Wake II which launched late last year.
On the other side of the news, Rockstar Games revealed in late 2023 that GTA 6 is finally coming soon and the reveal trailer of the game broke world records. GTA 6 is one of the most highly anticipated games from Rockstar Games under Take-Two Interactive. The hype on the game remains as it is yet to launch in the next few years.
GTA 6 is scheduled for a launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2025.
