Rockstar Games’ highly anticipated title, Grand Theft Auto VI, may face another delay, according to a recent leak. Initially slated for a release before the end of 2025, the game was previously pushed back to May 26, 2026, as announced by Rockstar Games and its parent company, Take-Two Interactive, earlier this year. This shift prompted other publishers to adjust their release schedules to avoid competing with the blockbuster title. Now, fresh rumors indicate that even this revised date might not hold.
The latest speculation originates from a post on X by leaker Millie A, who has a history of sharing insider information about gaming projects. According to Millie A’s post on July 10, 2025, Rockstar Games is still aiming to meet the May 26, 2026, release date for Grand Theft Auto VI. However, internal discussions at the studio reportedly suggest a possible slip to September 2026. While this information remains unconfirmed, it hints that Rockstar may be open to further adjustments if necessary to ensure the game meets its high standards.
Rockstar Games has a reputation for taking its time to deliver polished experiences, as evidenced by the success of Grand Theft Auto V, which has sold over 215 million copies worldwide, making it the second best-selling video game of all time. The studio’s meticulous approach allows it to prioritize quality, and with the immense anticipation surrounding Grand Theft Auto VI, any additional time could be used to refine gameplay, address technical issues, and meet the expectations of its global fanbase. Given the franchise’s proven ability to generate massive sales regardless of release timing, a delay might even enhance the final product’s reception if it results in a smoother launch.
The leaker also claims that Rockstar is preparing a three-tier pricing model for GTA 6:
Standard Edition – $70: The base game.
Deluxe Edition – $90: Includes early access to GTA Online.
Premium Edition – $110: Offers the earliest possible access to GTA Online, ahead of all other editions.
This would mark a significant shift in Rockstar's release strategy, mirroring trends in other AAA franchises offering tiered content unlocks. The additional cost for early access could prove controversial but might also drive massive day-one sales among the franchise’s passionate fanbase.
The leaker also claims that PlayStation 5 will receive priority marketing rights, including limited-edition console bundles, potentially making Sony the premier platform for GTA 6 promotions. This aligns with industry expectations that the game will be a timed console exclusive or receive early online features on PS5 before reaching other platforms.
As of now, no official statement from Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive has corroborated the rumored delay. Given the significant time remaining until May 2026, the studio may not finalize its release plans for some time. If a delay to September 2026 does occur, an announcement is unlikely to come until later this year or early 2026.
Grand Theft Auto VI is currently scheduled for release on May 26, 2026, and will be available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S platforms.
