Netflix’s upcoming romantic comedy Love Untangled is generating buzz with the release of new stills that highlight the vibrant chemistry between its leads, Gong Myoung and Shin Eun-soo. Set against the nostalgic backdrop of 1998 Busan, the film promises a heartwarming tale of youth, love, and self-discovery, centered on a high-spirited teenager’s mission to confess her feelings.
Love Untangled follows 19-year-old Park Se-ri, played by Shin Eun-soo, a spirited high school student grappling with a lifelong insecurity—her naturally curly hair, inherited from her father. Determined to overcome this personal struggle, Se-ri embarks on a bold mission to confess her feelings to her crush, the school’s heartthrob Kim Hyun, portrayed by Cha Woo-min, before graduation. Her journey takes an unexpected turn when she crosses paths with Han Yoon-seok, a transfer student from Seoul played by Gong Myoung, who becomes entangled in her ambitious “confession operation.”
The newly released stills capture the essence of late ’90s youth, showcasing Gong Myoung and Shin Eun-soo as two teenagers navigating the highs and lows of adolescence. One image depicts Yoon-seok with a camera in hand during a school trip, his warm smile hinting at a growing connection that piques curiosity about his evolving role in Se-ri’s story. Another still shows Se-ri, eyes sparkling with determination, as she schemes from hidden corners of the schoolyard, embodying her self-proclaimed expertise in one-sided love.
The film’s narrative weaves together humor and heartfelt moments as Se-ri enlists her friends to orchestrate her grand confession. Her history of failed crushes and confessions, often as tangled as her curly hair, adds a layer of relatability to her character. Meanwhile, Yoon-seok, initially a reserved newcomer, begins to open up as he spends time with Se-ri and her lively group of friends. This gradual transformation raises anticipation about how their unexpected bond will shape their journeys.
Director Namkoong Sun praised the leads for their ability to bring authenticity to their roles. “Gong Myoung has an almost unbelievably pure and wholesome energy,” she said. “On set, he’s a reliable professional, but as Yoon-seok, he becomes a sensitive and soft-hearted boy. His resilience and vibrant energy were truly remarkable.” She also lauded Shin Eun-soo, noting, “She has a unique ability to express emotion with her entire body. Her thorough preparation for each scene made Se-ri explosively lovable from the moment she stepped into the role.”
Gong Myoung and Shin Eun-soo on Their Roles
Gong Myoung shared insights into his portrayal of Yoon-seok, describing him as “the most youthful character I’ve ever played.” He emphasized the thought he put into capturing Yoon-seok’s gradual integration into his new school environment. “I focused on showing how he slowly blends in with his peers and opens up over time,” he said.
Shin Eun-soo echoed this sentiment, highlighting her connection to Se-ri’s vibrant personality. “Out of all the roles I’ve played, Se-ri has the strongest and brightest energy,” she said. “She’s the closest to how I am with my friends. Playing such a high-energy character allowed me to show a new side of myself, which was exciting.”
The stills also showcase the film’s nostalgic aesthetic, transporting viewers to the late ’90s with retro school uniforms and a vibrant, sunlit atmosphere. As Se-ri pours her heart into her final confession attempt, the film poses the question: will she finally break her streak of failed crushes and find her happy ending?
Love Untangled is set to premiere on Netflix on August 29, 2025, offering audiences a charming blend of romance, comedy, and coming-of-age nostalgia.
