Rockstar Games has officially released the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI, giving fans their first look at what the acclaimed devleloper has been working on since the release of GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2. For several years, there have been leaks and rumors teasing the highly-anticipated game, and we finally have our first official look. Fans of the Grand Theft Auto franchise had to wait two console generations to see it finally happen.

The first GTA 6 trailer gives us an early look at the modernized Vice City, the fictionalized version of Miami, Florida while introducing the game's female protagonist, Lucia, who's revealed to be a prisoner. When an older lady asks her why she's in prison, she replies, "Bad luck, I guess.". The video also gives us our first official look at her partner-in-crime and the game's other protagonist, Jason, and it looks like they will be working together to pull off crimes like Bonnie and Clyde.

Unfortunately, the trailer revealed a 2025 release date for GTA 6 instead of the 2024 release that many fans were hoping for. Rockstar has yet to announce an exact release date, but at least we know now that GTA 6 will be released within 2 years (as long as there no delays). When the game releases, it will be the eighth mainline installment and the 16th installment in the Grand Theft Auto franchise overall. Rockstar hasn't revealed how long their developers have been working on GTA 6, but reliable sources shared in 2020 that the game was in early stages of development. If this timeline is accurate, GTA 6 has been in development for a handful years now.
