A lot is expected to happen in Deadpool & Wolverine. Aside from seeing the two titular characters together, it is also set to end Fox’s X-Men timelines to connect to the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline. Add those to the number of surprising cameos it will feature, and lead star Ryan Reynolds teases “an impossible amount of surprises” in the movie.
During a recent fan event in Berlin, where they released a 35-minute preview for Deadpool & Wolverine, Reynolds revealed that they were “hiding a lot” in the threequel after generously showing over half an hour of footage (via ComicBook). Fans who attended the screening had nothing but praise for the film, giving overwhelming positive reactions. They also revealed that all the trailers released so far were part of the movie’s first half-hour. But the surprises would not just end there.
“There's kind of an impossible amount of surprises that, in a couple of weeks, we're so excited to unleash,” Reynolds said.
Director Shawn Levy wished they could show the whole movie to the screening attendants. However, he revealed Marvel Studios didn’t allow them to do that. Hence, they have to wait until July 26 patiently before they can finally see what the film has in store for them.
“We have to wait a couple more weeks,” he said.
The Confirmed and Unconfirmed Cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine
Deadpool has been known for featuring surprising cameos, from Stan Lee in the first movie to Brad Pitt in the sequel. That said, the threequel will be no stranger to this theme. As Deadpool & Wolverine is shaping up to be the MCU’s biggest crossover after Joe and Anthony Russo's 2019 Avengers: Endgame, fans can expect plenty of shocking character appearances throughout.
The previous trailers have confirmed that Tyler Mane and Aaron Stanford will return to reprise their roles as Sabretooth and Pyro after over 20 years. It was also recently revealed that Patrick Stewart would return as Professor X. Jennifer Garner was confirmed to be seen as Elektra nine years after leading the eponymous movie by Rob Bowman in 2005.
In addition, other classic X-Men movie villains, like Lady Deathstrike, Azazel, Toad, and Callisto, will also appear in the threequel, working together with the main antagonist, Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin). Other confirmed appearances, as glimpses of them are seen in promotional materials, are Juggernaut, The Russian, Alioth, Colossus, Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Yukio, Shatterstar, Dopinder, and Peter.
Ryan Reynolds also confirmed Rob McElhenney’s part in the MCU movie. Elsewhere, there are claims that Hulk will fight Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), though it remains to be seen what Variant of him will be seen. Other rumored cameos are Cyclops, Taylor Swift, though this has already been denied, Dafne Keen as X-23, and even King Charles.
Fans can expect Deadpool & Wolverine to be massively big with this crossover. With the early positive reviews and overwhelming reactions, it looks like the threequel will meet, if not exceed, the expectations.
Deadpool & Wolverine is set to release on July 26.
