After a long wait, Marvel Studios finally released the teaser for the much-awaited Deadpool 3, officially titled Deadpool & Wolverine, during the Super Bowl on Sunday. As expected, it shows Ryan Reynolds reprising his role as Wade Wilson/ Merc with a Mouth and a glimpse of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine with the shadow of his adamantium claw. But aside from these two superheroes, the preview also confirms the appearance of Aaron Standford as the fire-controlling villain Pyro from the X-Men movies and the actor himself teases his return.
In a post on Instagram, Stanford confirms his return as Pyro in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine. The 47-year-old shares a photo of himself wearing the same suit seen in the teaser. By the looks of it, the picture was taken while on a break from filming.
“Welly welly welly well. If it isn’t our old Droogie Pyro,” he captioned the snap with the hashtags #deadpool3 and #pyrosback.
For starters, Stanford first played the role of Pyro in the 2003 X2, also marketed as X2: X-Men United and internationally as X-Men 2. He then reprised the role in the 2006 X-Men: The Last Stand. Both films were still from 20th Century Fox. But with Disney’s acquisition of Fox, Pyro now joins Wade Wilson and Wolverine as they make their way to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Deadpool & Wolverine.
Which X-Men characters may appear in Deadpool & Wolverine?
Deadpool & Wolverine is now presumed to be the biggest Deadpool movie as it’s the first film featuring the Merc with a Mouth in the MCU. As this opens the door for the X-Men characters to be part of the Marvel Studios’ shared universe, many want to know which characters will appear in the film.
Rumors have it that Wolverine’s archnemesis and Magneto’s henchman in the 2000 X-Men Sabretooth may be seen in Deadpool 3. To add more fuel to the fire, a couple of set photos from the movie showed Wolverine and Deadpool’s fight with Sabretooth, seemingly confirming his appearance. And by the looks of it, Victor Creed is accompanied by Toad, as also seen in The Void set photos.
Other X-Men characters that may be seen in the movie are Dafnee Keen reprising her role as X-23 from the 2017 Logan, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, James Marsden as Cyclops, Halle Berry as Storm, and Famke Janssen as Jean Grey. However, fans should only take these assumptions with a grain of salt, as nothing is confirmed yet. But if this happens, imagine how big of a movie this will be.
Deadpool & Wolverine is set to hit the big screen on July 26. As the film’s director Shawn Levy earlier teased that there would be massive cameos, it’s a must-see who will make an appearance in the movie.
