The new Deadpool & Wolverine trailer features a lot of Easter Eggs and Marvel Cinematic Universe references, like the surprising appearance of Scott Lang/Ant-Man’s helmet in his Giant-Man form. This headpiece is where the movie’s main villain, Cassandra Nova, appears. But aside from Charles Xavier’s evil twin sister, the preview also gives a glimpse of the other classic X-Men movie villains, such as Deathstrike, Azazel, Pyro, Toad, and Callisto.

Pyro, Deathstrike, Pyro, Toad, and Callisto are seen waiting for Cassandra to come out as the skull of Ant-Man’s dead variant opens in the Deadpool & Wolverine trailer. Though this scene only lasts for a second, eagle-eyed fans quickly catch a glimpse of the pruned mutant variants. And by the looks of it, they are Cassandra’s small army, who’s safely guarding her.

The film’s first trailer confirmed Pyro’s appearance, while Toad was reportedly seen on set, confirming his cameo. However, this will be the first time Callisto, Deathstrike and Azazel will be seen again after over a decade.

Which X-Men movies did Deathstrike, Callisto and Azazel last appear?

Deathstrike, played by Kelly Hu, was last seen in the 2003 X2: X-Men United. She was William Stryker’s (Brian Cox) lieutenant, meaning he had control of her through a chemical compound from his mutant son/test subject, Jason, just like his other mutant agents. Her razor-bladed fingernails and healing ability made her the ideal candidate for the Adamantium bonding process, making her Wolverine’s (Hugh Jackman) successor in the Weapon X program. However, the film ended with Wolverine killing her by pumping her veins full of liquid adamantium.

Callisto (Dania Ramirez) was part of the 2006 X-Men: The Last Stand. She led a small group of outcast mutants called the Omegas, who allied themselves with Magneto (Ian McKellen) and his Brotherhood. If Deathstrike faced Wolverine, Callisto fought against Storm (Halle Berry). Sure, Callisto got the upper hand when the first time they battled. However, a rematch happened during the final battle on Alcatraz, with Storm’s continuous barrage of electricity killing her.

Lastly, Azazel (Jason Flemyng) appeared in the 2011 X-Men: First Class. The teleporting assassin worked for Sebastian Shaw (Kevin Bacon) and his group, the Hellfire Club Inner Circle, which nearly caused WWII. The group was also behind the Cuban Missile Crisis. But after Shaw died, Azazel went into hiding. Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) then learned in the 2014 X-Men: Days of Future Past that Azazel was among the many mutants who were captured, experimented on, and killed by Sentinel inventor Bolivar Trask.
