Channing Tatum finally has the chance to bring Remy LeBeau / Gambit to life in Deadpool & Wolverine after several previous attempts to do so failed. He was supposed to play the exploding playing card-wielding mutant in Brett Ratner’s 2006 X-Men: The Last Stand, Gavin Hood’s 2009 X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and his own standalone Gambit movie, but those didn’t happen. As his supporting role seems to spark renewed interest in him headlining his own live-action Gambit film, Tatum hints at his character’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Gambit appeared in Deadpool & Wolverine as part of the Resistance, a group of heroes opposing Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin) in the Void. Alongside Wesley Snipes’ Blade, Jennifer Garner’s Elektra, Dafne Keen’s X-23, and Chris Evans’ Johnny Storm / Human Torch, he plays a supporting role rather than just making a brief appearance. After the post-credits scene shows the X-Men hero on a TV monitor at the Time Variance Authority (TVA), Tatum hints in an interview with Collider that something is happening at that moment.

“I think at that moment, if I had to guess, he's definitely still in the Void,” he said. “But there's something that's happening in that moment that maybe no one knows yet.”

By the looks of it, Tatum has been hinting at the return of Gambit in the MCU. Though it remains to be seen whether this will be in his own movie or another Marvel film, the positive reception of his appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine suggests that fans will surely see him again.

Channing Tatum in Talks with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige About Next Gambit Outing

Gambit has finally joined the MCU, alongside other Fox-Marvel characters, in Deadpool & Wolverine following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2019. Although his appearance was already part of the numerous cameo rumors leading up to the movie’s release, it was still a big surprise to see him make his debut in Gambit’s comic-accurate costume. As this renews Tatum’s hopes of finally leading his own Gambit movie, the actor reveals that he’s already in talks with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige about his next Gambit outing.

“At least I’m talking to Kevin, and I just want to be in any MCU stuff,” he told ScreenRant. “To get to dress up again as him would be enough.”

The 44-year-old star would love to portray any version of Gambit and believes it will happen soon. He also mentioned that his potential Gambit movie would be an origin story set in a world where it could intersect with Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds).

“You put Deadpool in a lot of scenes with other MCU characters, and he could possibly just make fun of them the entire time,” he continued. “But he wouldn’t because Ryan loves comics, and he loves Marvel.”

Discussing his appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine, Tatum described it as a “make-a-wish sort of thing” that Reynolds did for him. He even felt his friend allowed him to be part of the threequel and dress up as his favorite superhero character. Consequently, he couldn’t help but be in awe when he saw Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, alongside Blade, Elektra, and many others.

“Everyone’s here, this is wild,” he continued. “Your mouth to God’s ears, friend. Help me will it into existence.”
