Yuri Lowenthal has spent years putting words in Peter Parker's mouth across Insomniac's web-slinging titles, and he already knows which guest he wants next. He would rather the studio drop Deadpool into that New York than rush a team-up with Wolverine.
The comments came during a recent interview with TheMovieDweeb (via GameReactorUK). Lowenthal was asked whether Spider-Man might eventually share a scene with Wolverine after the mutant's own game ships, and he used the opening to rank his own wishlist instead of offering a polite maybe.
He granted that a Spider-Man and Wolverine meeting would be terribly exciting, then drew a sharper line when he said that “there’s one character I would opt for even more strongly than Wolverine, and it would be Deadpool.” The Merc with a Mouth sits at the top of the list he keeps bringing to the studio. He framed the preference as personal rather than a prediction about what Insomniac will actually greenlight.
Lowenthal has not treated the idea as a one-off joke. Whenever he has run into Insomniac creative director Brian Horton, he has pressed him to put Deadpool in a future title, and he even half-claimed credit in case the character later appears. He would rather believe the pitch started with him than admit he might have spoiled something already in motion.
Deadpool would smash the measured tone Insomniac has built around Peter Parker and Miles Morales. His running commentary, sloppy violence, and habit of talking past the fourth wall would give the studio a weapon it has barely used, while his long comic history with Spider-Man would spare writers a long introduction. The two already know how to needle each other on the page.
That history includes team-ups, betrayals, and missions that swing from grim to ridiculous in a single issue. Insomniac could use those beats to let Deadpool crash through the same rooftops and alleys players already know without pretending he belongs in the same emotional register as Wolverine. The contrast itself would be the point.
The pair's comic-book rapport already does half the work a crossover needs. Putting Deadpool inside Insomniac's New York would test whether the studio can keep its grounded street-level style while letting a character who never shuts up run wild through it. How that collision gets staged would say as much about the next game as the guest himself.
Marvel's Wolverine hits PlayStation 5 on September 15, 2026 and will put Logan's claws and healing factor at the center of an original story. Whatever Lowenthal keeps asking Horton for will have to wait until that exclusive ships and the studio decides who walks into New York next.
