The spinoff series Castlevania: Nocturne is finally coming to Netflix this September. The news was first revealed during the streamer’s 2022 Geeked Week with a brand-new trailer, which gave fans a peek at Trevor Belmont’s whip-cracking ancestor, Richter Belmont, in action.
Even though Dracula has been defeated, from the latest trailer, it looks like there is a new threat on the horizon, looking to take advantage of the social upheaval in France. It plans to enslave all of humanity while the newest Belmont takes charge and decides to fight back.
Nocturne is set during the time of the French Revolution. It takes inspiration from the two most prominent games in the Castlevania franchise featuring Richter, i.e., Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night.
Despite being young, Richter takes up the mantle of the Belmont clan during a difficult time when people are fighting to improve their situation in life. In the trailer, we see the difficulties Richter had to go through personally, such as the loss of his mother to an evil killer who promises that he will also murder him the same way when the time is right.
Regardless of all the sadness he carries in his heart, he listens to the sorceress Annette who asks him to lead the resistance against the vampire threat that has joined hands with the aristocracy in order to crush their bones to dust. As the story progresses, Richter will team up with Maria Renard, another returning character from both Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night.
Maria uses her magic to help Richter lead the forces of the resistance against the night creatures. They face a deadly enemy in the Vampire Messiah, a creature who is prophesied to devour the sun before the moon is full and bring the resistance to an end. She plans to enslave humanity, but Richter, Annette, Maria, and other members of their team of heroes stand in her way.
Towards the end of the trailer, fans can see the bloody, painful, and action-packed battle as the heroes look for a way to save the people of France and the world from their oppressors. It seems as if the series, Nocturne, is a departure from the main plot of the games, especially without Dracula involved after his happy ending in Castlevania Season 4.
