Popular Canadian streamer Felix "xQc" Lengyel has addressed the rumored pricing of the highly-anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI, justifying why it's worth its potential premium cost. While thousands of critics online snapped back at the game's rumored $100 price tag, xQc defended the supposed price, arguing the value of polished, high-quality AAA titles, is worth the premium.
Earlier this year, analyst Matthew Ball shared his annual State of Video Gaming report for this year, and he made a rather bold claim that has since snowballed into a heated debate among fans of the GTA franchise.
"There is hope that Take-Two will price GTA VI at $80 or even $100,” Ball said in his report, “thereby breaking a key price barrier and enabling the rest of the market to move up, too."
Posting a meme, xQc argues that the same gamers complaining about GTA 6 rumored premium prices are the same ones spending absurd amounts on early access flops and in-game cosmetics. He tweeted:
Gamers will buy 5 early access, half baked $140 games and sprinkle $300 worth of skins in a year, but when a AAA company goes all out and take their time to make the most anticipated polished product we know they can make, suddenly $100 is too much? Stop talking.
According to analysts and game developers, GTA 6's rumored premium price could cause other companies to increase the price for games across the industry. Whether the rumored price turns out to be true or not, this debate will likely continue for pricing of upcoming AAA titles.
Gamers Roast xQc's Views on GTA 6's Rumored $100 Price
While some gamers agreed with xQc's point, some gamers are not on board with the idea of forking over a $100 for a single video game. User TZChamp argued that while skins can be costly, paying for them is optional, and the games that usually offer them are free-to-play:
First off, no one cares about a millionaire’s opinions on if something is expensive or not because they can’t relate. Secondly, those games that sprinkle $300 worth of skins in a year are usually FREE TO PLAY. Skins are also an optional purchase and not required.
Another user, who goes by ShinobiDancer, criticized xQc's mindset:
If you had geniuses maxing out their parents’ credit cards to donate to your Twitch streams, you’d have this mindset too.
User WomanDefiner bashed xQc's credibility:
I watched him lose 2 million dollars on election night. I'll pass on taking anything this guy says seriously.
DaelyDriver brought up a conspiracy theory:
**xQc was paid to defend GTA 6's rumored price of $100 amid its criticisms.
One fan defended xQc's point (via Dexerto), saying:
$100 is fair ONLY for GTA 6, legit. I don’t think there is any other game in the industry that would be worth so much money and had so much money put into its production.
