The long-awaited Winter Arc of Undead Unluck has finally broken cover with a pulse-pounding new trailer and a breathtaking key visual that plunges the series into a frozen hell of escalating chaos and revelations.
The freshly unveiled trailer, clocking in at just over a minute and a half, offers a tantalizing glimpse into the Winter Arc’s escalating conflicts. It opens with dynamic sequences showcasing protagonist Fuuko Izumo’s Unluck ability wreaking havoc in unexpected ways, interspersed with Andy’s undead resilience pushing him through impossible odds.
New footage highlights intense Union organization skirmishes, mysterious new Negator abilities clashing in explosive set pieces, and hints at deeper lore surrounding the enigmatic “God” who pulls the strings of fate. The trailer’s pulsating soundtrack, composed by the returning team, amps up the tension with a remix of the series’ iconic opening theme.
Accompanying the trailer is a striking new key visual, illustrated by character designer Yūichi Takahashi. The artwork centers Fuuko and Andy in a snowy, ethereal landscape, perfectly embodying the Winter Arc’s icy theme.
At the helm is director Sunghoo Park, acclaimed for his work on Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 and Ninja Kamui, who also handles storyboarding and production duties. This marks a fresh directorial vision for the franchise, complemented by returning key staff: screenplay by Gakuto Haishima (series composition from season 1), character designs by Hideyuki Morioka and Shun’ichi Ishimoto, and music by Kenichirō Suehiro.
The ending theme, 02 by Queen Bee, builds on their previous contributions to the series’ soundtrack. The voice cast remains largely intact, with Moe Kahara reprising Fuuko Izumo, Yūki Kaji as Andy, Kaito Ishikawa as Shen, Atsumi Tanezaki as Juiz, and Chikahiro Kobayashi as Billy. New additions for the Winter Arc include Kenshō Ono voicing Tella and Takehito Koyasu as the anime-original UMA Balance, adding layers of intrigue to the special’s roster of antagonists and allies.
This one-hour extravaganza picks up directly from the first season’s explosive finale, diving into an original narrative that explores the Union’s internal fractures, introduces complex Negator dynamics, and unveils new threats in a wintry setting. With the trailer’s emphasis on strategic alliances, betrayals, and supernatural showdowns, the Winter Arc promises to expand the world-building while delivering non-stop adrenaline in a compact, high-stakes format.
What is Undead Unluck About?
Undead Unluck originated as a manga series written and illustrated by Yoshifumi Tozuka. It began serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in January 2020 and has since captivated readers with its unique premise and fast-paced narrative. As of November 2025, the manga has spanned over 20 volumes, earning praise for its inventive power system, sharp humor, and exploration of existential themes. Tozuka, a veteran Jump artist whose previous works include one-shots like Hinomaru Zumou, drew inspiration from classic shonen tropes while infusing them with a fresh, irreverent twist on immortality and misfortune.
At its core, the story follows a duo bound by their extraordinary—and curse-like—abilities in a world where “Negators” wield powers that defy natural laws. The plot kicks off with Fuuko Izumo, a young woman plagued by her Unluck ability that inadvertently causes disasters and deaths around her, leading her to contemplate suicide. Her path collides with Andy, an immortal man desperate for a permanent end to his endless existence. Together, they form an unlikely partnership, joining the anti-government organization Union to battle threats while unraveling the secrets of their powers and the god-like entities manipulating humanity’s rules.
Tired of inadvertently killing people with her special ability Unluck, Fuuko Izumo sets out to end it all. But when she meets Andy, a man who longs for death but can’t die, she finds a reason to live—and he finds someone capable of giving him the death he’s been longing for.
The Winter Arc delves deeper into this foundation, ramping up the stakes with revelations that challenge the protagonists’ understanding of their world and force them to confront the true cost of their “luck” in an unluckily chaotic universe.
