A brand-new isekai has beaten one of anime's biggest names on the global streaming chart. The Laid-Off Cheat-Granting Mage Enjoys a Second Lease on Life has climbed above Black Clover on Crunchyroll's worldwide rankings, a striking result for a series that only premiered this month.

The upset comes via FlixPatrol, whose worldwide Crunchyroll TV-show chart for October 15 put the mage anime on top with 79 points. Black Clover sat at No. 4 with 50 points, leaving the newcomer a comfortable 29 points clear of a franchise that has spent years building its audience.

The regional picture is just as strong. The series led the overall chart in France, Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom on the same day, finishing above Overgeared worldwide even though that series led the chart in Australia, New Zealand and the United States.

It is an unusually fast rise for a light novel adaptation with no long-running franchise behind it. Where established series rely on catalog depth, this one is winning on immediacy — every chart point is coming from viewers watching the current simulcast as it airs.

Some context matters here: daily chart points measure viewing velocity — how fast and how consistently people are watching right now — rather than lifetime hours. Black Clover remains a pillar of anime streaming, and it returned this month for a second season, five years after Asta was last on screen. But on current momentum, the new 12-episode isekai is the hotter show.

What is The Laid-Off Cheat-Granting Mage Enjoys a Second Lease on Life about?

The anime adapts Asa Rokushima's light novel series, which also has a manga adaptation illustrated by Gyomuyomochi. P.A.WORKS produces the television anime, which premiered in October 2026 as part of Crunchyroll's Fall 2026 simulcast lineup, with 12 episodes planned and new installments arriving weekly.

The story follows Rein Garland, a mage whose gift is granting enhancements — assigning points that strengthen weapons and equipment. After his guild dismisses him once he has finished enhancing its members' gear, Rein reclaims the enhancement points he had handed out and starts over as an adventurer, free to grant his power — or revoke it — as he chooses.

He does not travel alone. His companions include Lily Flambert, an S-class adventurer, Margaret Els, an accomplished A-class adventurer, and Mirabelle, an assassin raised in a violent profession. Each carries a troubled past, and Rein's willingness to accept people others would discard gives the party an emotional thread beneath the power fantasy.

The format may be part of the formula. Twelve dense episodes ask almost nothing of new viewers compared with catching up on years of Black Clover, and weekly drops keep every episode an event. The Laid-Off Cheat-Granting Mage Enjoys a Second Lease on Life is streaming now on Crunchyroll.
