Tron: Ares director Joachim Rønning has confirmed that filming for the latest installment of Disney's sci-fi franchise has officially wrapped following a location shoot in Vancouver for the past few months. The standalone sequel to Tron (1982) and Tron: Legacy (2010) stars Jared Leto and Jeff Bridges. Leto plays Ares, a manifestation of a rogue program within the grid who is said to crossover the human world, while Bridges returns as Kevin Flynn.
The production update comes from Rønning's Instagram post, who expressed his gratitude to the crew after a lengthy process, following multiple delays. In his post, the Norwegian director also shared behind-the-scenes photos from the Vancouver set of Tron: Ares. Rønning is clearly thrilled that they've wrapped filming, and confirmed that he's ready to show the world the spectacle they've made inside the Grid.
“Thanks to an incredible and tireless crew, I really believe we pushed the filmmaking limits on this movie,” Rønning wrote in the post. “Even through six weeks of night shoots you never slowed down. Also, a big thank you to our wonderful cast for leaving everything on screen. I can’t wait to show the world what we’ve done.”
Who will be in Tron: Ares?
Last week, Jeff Bridges confirmed that he'll reprise his role as Kevin Flynn, the protagonist of the first Tron movie. Other than him and Jared Leto, Tron: Ares also stars Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Jodie Turner-Smith, Hasan Minhaj, Arturo Castro, Gillian Anderson, Sarah Desjardins, and Cameron Monaghan.
Rønning (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil) is directing Tron: Ares, with a screenplay by Jack Thorn and Jesse Wigutow.
Tron: Ares is slated to release exclusively in theaters on October 10, 2025. The first two Tron movies as well as the animated series Tron: Uprising are available to stream on Disney+.
