A new trailer for The Detective Is Already Dead Season 2 anime has arrived, locking in an October 7 premiere on Japanese television. The footage offers a closer look at the mystery sequel as it prepares to resume Kimihiko’s unfinished investigations. It also frames the next stretch of cases around conspiracy, loss, and a partnership that never fully closed.
The trailer previews the season’s theme songs as well, with Koume performing the opening Kono Shinzo ni Hanataba wo and Kagura Nana performing the ending Hakuchumu. Akari Komiyama and Nobuhiko Okamoto are joining the voice cast for the new season, taking on Mia Whitlock and Scarlet.

Manabu Kurihara is returning to direct The Detective Is Already Dead Season 2 at studio ENGI. Series composition comes from Deko Akao of The Case Study of Vanitas, character designs are handled by Yosuke Ito of Our Dating Story: The Experienced You and The Inexperienced Me, and the music is composed by 40mP and Yuyu.
What is The Detective Is Already Dead about?
The Detective Is Already Dead began as a light novel series written by Nigojū and illustrated by Umibōzu. Media Factory publishes the books in Japan under the MF Bunko J imprint, mixing mystery, adventure, and romantic comedy around a student who cannot stay out of trouble. Yen Press later brought the novels to English readers, and a manga adaptation expanded the same story in another format.
The narrative opens when Kimihiko Kimizuka is pulled into an airplane hijacking and becomes the assistant to Siesta, a silver-haired detective fighting a hidden war. After that partnership ends with her death, he tries to settle into a quieter life until a new case drags the past back into view. Murder, conspiracy, and the shadow of a partner who is already gone remain at the center of the franchise.
