The final chapter of the Kaiju No. 8 anime will play out on the big screen, with the concluding story confirmed as a theatrical film titled Kaiju No. 8: The Final Mission. The announcement was made on October 24 during a dedicated Kaiju No. 8 event in Tachikawa, Japan, alongside a new super teaser visual and a video unveiling the artwork.

The film follows the anime's first two seasons and will serve as the conclusion to the entire adaptation. A final chapter had first been announced at Jump Festa 2026, but the Tachikawa event is where its format was settled — a movie, rather than another television season.

Production I.G is returning to handle the animation production for the film, with Studio Khara back in charge of the kaiju designs. The super teaser visual was created by Shinji Kimura, who served as art director on the television anime.

That visual shows a mysterious, enormous kaiju looming over a devastated landscape, carrying the tagline "The age of humanity ends." The image points to an unprecedented threat, and it evokes Kaiju No. 9, who absorbed Isao Shinomiya before flying away to declare that the age of kaiju had begun.

The finale will push the Defense Force to the brink against evolved kaiju, while Kaiju No. 9 sets its ultimate scheme in motion. Against that threat, Kafka Hibino resolves to fight as Kaiju No. 8, setting the stage for one last battle.

Masaya Fukunishi, who voices Kafka Hibino, commented, "After the broadcasts of Seasons 1 and 2, we've been able to enjoy the Kaiju No. 8 anime together with everyone. And now, in 2027, this series will finally reach its conclusion with a theatrical film!"

He added, "Next year will also be the year I turn 32, the same age as Kafka. I can't help but feel that there's something fateful about reaching the final chapter at this particular moment…!"

Fukunishi closed by saying, "Until the very, very end, I'll continue giving everything I have to creating this work that I love so much, together with my beloved Kafka Hibino and Kaiju No. 8. Thank you for all your support!!"

The television anime ran for a total of 23 episodes between April 13, 2024 and September 27, 2025. Its two seasons are streaming on Crunchyroll, while the short anime Narumi's Week at Work arrived earlier this fall as a companion to the final chapter announcement.

The franchise is no stranger to theaters, either, after Kaiju No. 8: Mission Recon compiled the first season into an omnibus film in 2025. That release paired the recap with the original episode Hoshina's Day Off, giving the series a cinematic outing well before its true finale was announced.

What is Kaiju No. 8 about?

Kaiju No. 8 is an action and science-fiction series based on the manga by Naoya Matsumoto, which was serialized on Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ platform from July 2020. The manga ended in July 2025 with Chapter 129 and was compiled into a total of 16 volumes, with Viz Media publishing the series in English.

Kafka hopes to one day keep his pact with his childhood friend Mina to join the Japan Defense Force and fight by her side. But while she's out neutralizing kaiju as Third Division captain, Kafka is stuck cleaning up the aftermath of her battles. When a sudden rule change makes Kafka eligible for the Defense Force, he decides to try out for the squad once more. There's just one problem—he's made the Defense Force's neutralization list under the code name Kaiju No. 8.
