The first full-length promotional trailer for Tamon’s B-Side debuted this week, officially announcing that the television anime adaptation of Yuki Shiwasu’s award-winning romantic comedy manga will premiere on January 3, 2026 at 25:00 JST (effectively January 4, 1:00 a.m.) on the Super Animeism late-night programming block of MBS/TBS and its nationwide network affiliates.

Produced by J.C.STAFF—the studio renowned for character-rich series such as Toradora!, Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma, and The Familiar of Zero—the series is directed by Chika Nagaoka, best known for helming the box-office record-breaking Case Closed: The Fist of Blue Sapphire film. Series composition and all episode scripts are penned by Chiaki Nagai (22/7 (nanabun no nijyuuni), The Vampire Dies in No Time season 2), while character designs and chief animation direction are handled by Yōko Itō (Delico’s Nursery, Amanza, Untitled Darkness).

The newly released trailer immediately establishes the core appeal of the source material: the hilarious and heartwarming gap between Tamon Fukushima’s dazzling, princely idol persona as a member of the nation-dominating boy band F/ACE and his real-life personality—an anxious, self-deprecating mess who bursts into tears at the slightest criticism. Quick cuts contrast glittering concert footage with Tamon curled up in a dark apartment, while upbeat original tracks give way to tender acoustic moments as protagonist Utage Kinoshita vows to protect her favorite idol from himself.

The confirmed main voice cast features:

  • Saori Hayami as Utage Kinoshita

  • Kakeru Hatano as Tamon Fukushima

  • Shoya Chiba as Ouri Sakaguchi

  • Tasuku Hatanaka as Keito Tachibana

  • Kohei Amasaki as Natsuki Ishibashi

  • Ryuho Nagaoka as Rintaro Kai

What is Tamon’s B-Side about?

Yuki Shiwasu’s Tamon’s B-Side has been serialized in Kodansha’s Dessert magazine since October 2021 and currently spans 10 compiled volumes in Japan. The English-language edition is published by VIZ Media, which offers the following official synopsis:

Tamon is an insecure mess in real life, and what’s worse, he’s threatening to quit! Utage refuses to let anyone stand in Tamon’s way—least of all himself. What’s a fangirl to do but roll up her sleeves and support her favorite singer with everything she’s got?

With its sharp writing, expressive art, and nuanced depiction of mental health struggles behind the glamour of fame, Tamon’s B-Side has earned consistent spots on “best shōjo of the year” lists and was nominated for the 48th Kodansha Manga Award in 2024.
