Star Wars: The Acolyte Showrunner Teases Series' Ties to This Legendary Sith Lord

With the many theories surrounding the real Sith Lord in Star Wars: The Acolyte, assuming there's one, Leslye Headland teased the show could tell the story of this Dark Lord.

Since Star Wars: The Acolyte's trailer showed a glimpse of its mysterious Sith Lord, there have been different theories about who this Dark Lord could be. Surprisingly, it was revealed to be Qimir (Manny Jacinto), later named The Stranger. However, that doesn’t stop viewers from casting their assumptions that Qimir has his own Sith Master, whose identity is yet to be revealed. With only one episode left, showrunner Leslye Headland teases the series’ ties to the legendary Sith Lord, Darth Plagueis.

In an interview with Nerdist, Headland was asked if she knew the history of Star Wars, from the time of The Acolyte to Darth Plagueis training Emperor Palpatine / Darth Sidious. Of course, as a self-confessed big fan of the franchise, the series creator said yes and hinted she would play that out if she got the chance to continue the show.

“If I continue to get to tell this story, I know how I would like that to play out,” she teased. “And I would say I think it’s pretty complicated and messy.”

There’s no denying that the show has been featuring a major connection to Darth Plagueis, with the power that the witches of Brendok are seen wielding. The Acolyte Episode 3, Destiny, revealed that Mother Aniseya (Jodie Turner-Smith) created Mae and Osha (Amandla Stenberg) while Mother Koril (Margarita Levieva) carried them. In the recently released Episode 7, Choice, the Jedi learned that the twins had extremely high M-counts and the same symbionts, which they assumed were manipulated using vergence that could split one consciousness into two bodies.

As explained in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, Darth Plagueis was a powerful Sith Lord who could manipulate M-counts to create life. It was also revealed in the novelization of Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker that part of Darth Plagueis’ extensive research into immortality was using two individuals to obtain eternal life, like the Force Dyad that he tried to forge with Palpatine. That said, he might have learned all these things through the witches’ rituals, like the rites Mother Aniseya used to create Osha and Mae. The coven also seemed to have a knowledge of Transference, a dark side power that transferred their spirits and consciousness to a different body like what they did to Kelnacca (Joonsa Suotamo). It was the same talent Darth Plagueis and Palpatine knew about, strengthening the connection more.

Is Mother Koril Qimir’s Sith Master in Star Wars: The Acolyte?

Meanwhile, Episode 7 hints that Mother Koril may have escaped the witches’ massacre on Brendok and is still alive, giving birth to theories that she may be Qimir’s Sith Master. However, Headland debunks the claim in the same interview, saying that the two do not know each other and that fans will learn her fate if they can continue to explore this show’s side of the story.

“They do not know each other. But what I will say, as a tease, if we are able to explore this story more, her species will tell you a little bit about where she ends up,” she explained.

This revelation opens the big question of who Qimir’s real Sith Master really is, in case he has one. As the show only has one episode left, considering it hasn’t been renewed for a second season yet, it still has a lot of questions to answer.
