Star Wars Movie From Deadpool & Wolverine Director Finds a Writer

A few weeks before the theatrical release of Deadpool & Wolverine, one of director Shawn Levy's next blockbusters has received a major update.

The Star Wars movie from Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy has reportedly tapped a writer: The Adam Project's Jonathan Tropper. As Deadline reported on Wednesday, the untitled Star Wars project will see Levy and screenwriter Tropper reunite once again as the duo have already collaborated on 2014's This Is Where I Leave You, 2017's Kodachrome, and 2022's The Adam Project.

Other than his works with Levy, Tropper worked on Warrior, the Banshee series, and the Apple TV series See starring Jason Mamoa. There is currently no confirmed release date for Levy's film as the filmmaker has prioritized his work on Deadpool & Wolverine and the fifth and final season of Netflix's Stranger Things.

The news of Tropper's addition at least suggests that Levy's Star Wars project is moving forward, as despite the director saying last June that he was still moving forward with it, Disney has a track record of announcing Star Wars movies that soon vanish into obscurity.

What to Expect in Shawn Levy's Star Wars Movie

Plot details about Shawn Levy's upcoming Star Wars movie haven't been revealed yet. The filmmkaer previously revealed that his Star Wars film will uniquely reflect his storytelling style and connection to the franchise.

"When [Lucasfilm president] Kathy Kennedy brought me on board to make a Star Wars movie, her central mandate to me was, 'I want a Shawn Levy movie. I want a story and a tone that reflects you and your taste and what you bring to your movies -- with a Star Wars story,'" Levy told Variety in Fall 2023. "So I have felt extremely empowered. We are in early days, unfortunately, because the development process was abruptly paused [due to the WGA strike], but I feel very empowered to trust my instincts in the development of this story and movie."

Lucasfilm and Disney also previously announced The Mandalorian and Grogu movie that's will continue the adventures of Din Djarin / The Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) and his little companion, Grogu. The film will be directed by Jon Favreau, and produced by Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni. The movie is currently scheduled to release in theaters on May 22, 2026.
