As expected, Squid Game Season 2 has become a massive success for Netflix, breaking several records in its first week since it premiered on December 26, breaking several Netflix records in the process. The South Korean action thriller from creator/director Hwang Dong-hyuk became one of the streamer's most surprising breakout success when its first season premiered in September 2021; now, the second season continues to attract a massive amount of viewership, and it's safe to say that the hype hasn't died down for the series.

As Netflix's Tudum revealed today, Squid Game Season 2 has debuted with 68 million views worldwide in its first four days of availability, breaking the previous one-week record previously held by Wednesday in 2022, with 50.1 million views, so it's not surprising that it ranked as the number one most-watched show on Netflix in 92 countries.

As Netflix revealed, the 68 million views, the 68 million views is broken down across 487.6 million total hours watched spread across the seven-episode, seven-hours-and-ten-minute runtime for the entire Season 2. Naturally, this made the new Squid Game season Netflix's most-watched title of the week of December 23 to 29.

Squid Game Season 2 has also become the 7th most popular non-English language program. The first season is still on top of that list with 265.2 views, — a milestone it achieved in just 3 days. Of course, Season 2 has plenty of time to potentially become the all-time leader. The second season is also the most-viewed Netflix show ever measured through day 4.

The first season of Squid Game also saw renewed interest, charting as the Top 3 Non-English TV series on Netflix during that week, with 8.1 million views. The week's second-most-viewed title on Netflix overall was the movie Carry-On (34.9 million views), starring Taron Egerton.

Netflix shares first teaser for Squid Game Season 3

Netflix previously confirmed that Squid Game Season 3 will be released sometime in 2025, and today, the streamer released the first teaser trailer featuring Young-hee and Chul-su, the giant robotic dolls of the deadly games. While the teaser doesn't actually feature new footages for Season 3, we can expect the series to conclude as Netflix previously confirmed that it will be the final season.

The first teaser visual for Squid Game Season 3 was also shared, showing the same visual of Young-hee and Chul-su from the teaser clip:

If you're wondering when the third season will exactly release next year, creator Hwang Dong-hyuk teased that fans can “probably expect” the final season to “launch around summer or fall next year". Netflix will likely announce an exact release date for Squid Game Season 3 sometime in the first or second quarter of 2025. Without giving too much away for fans who haven't watched the episodes, Season 2 ends on a major cliffhanger.
