Aside from the powers of the heroes, what makes them stand out are their costumes which usually becomes their signature look, making them stand out among the rest. When there are introduction movies coming out, these costumes are usually unveiled through trailers or character posters. However, Sony Pictures took a different path when it comes to the reveal of the official costumes of the characters in Madame Web as those were revealed in a Pepsi promo for each of the heroes.
Sony Pictures reign over the Spider-Man universe and there are a lot of characters that could potentially cross paths with others from different movies. Madame Web is the latest addition to the list and with it coming out next month during Valentine's Day, Sony Pictures brings in a new strategy in introducing the official costumes of the heroes in the movie. Shared by @SpiderMan_Newz on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption "Madame Web X Pepsi promo," the post shows the four main characters of the movie donning each of their respective costumes on Pepsi cans. See the post below:
There is Dakota Johnson who will play Cassandra Webb, the titular character, Madame Web, who wears an intricate all-red suit with a web in the middle that extends to the sides and without any mask on. Then, there is Sydney Sweeney who will suit up as Julia Carpenter, a.k.a. Spider-Woman II, and the successor of Madame Web as per the comics who is in her black and gray suit with a mask that covers half of her face. Celeste O’Connor will don the role of Mattie Franklin/ Spider-Woman III in her blue suit with a red spider in the middle, plus her red mask and fabulous afro. Lastly, there is Isabela Merced who will portray Anya Corazon a.k.a. Spider-Girl wearing a similar colored suit as Spider-Woman II but hers has more of the gray than the black and her mask is just around her eyes.
What is Madame Web about?
Madame Web is set to introduce the abovementioned heroes in the Spider-Man universe which will be a switch from the usual genre of the movies in the franchise. It will be a standalone origin story of the titular hero who is a paramedic in Manhattan gifted with clairvoyant abilities. As she confronts her past, she encounters three women who are destined to be heroes in the future as well. They, however, will face a common villain with the name of Ezekiel “Zeke” Sims.
The official synopsis of Madame Web starts with “Meanwhile, in another universe…” which hints that the movie could be connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the comics, Madame Web is known for her ability called the "Web of Life and Death" which gives her an access to any point in time or reality. Should this be present in the upcoming movie, then, Madame Web could connect to the bigger MCU narrative.
Madame Web is set to come out in theaters on February 14, 2024.
