Sydney Sweeney has finally talked about her much-anticipated role in the upcoming Spider-Man spinoff Madame Web. Though earlier reports had confirmed that the actress would play the part of the second Spider-Woman, Julia Carpenter, this is the first time that she has been able to discuss her character.
After making waves in Euphoria and The White Lotus, Sweeney is ready to take up the mantle by joining the superhero movie world. In this case, Sony's Spider-Man Universe. Madame Web will be the fourth movie in the SSU, which started with Venom (2018) and was followed by Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021) and Morbius (2022). The film will be led by Dakota Johnson, alongside Sweeney and Isabela Merced.
Considering how Sony's projects have recently changed, Sweeney's role in the movie has always been a hot topic for the Marvel fandom. Now, the 25-year-old has shared her first public quotes about her role.
In an interview with Variety, before the SAG-AFTRA strike began, Sweeney revealed how she freaked out when she booked the role. So, to know more about her character, she got all the comic books she could that mentioned the second Spider-Woman.
"I went straight to the comic store, and I bought every comic that mentioned my character," she said.
However, amid the fears that Madame Web will not succeed at the box office, just like Morbius, she is confident that the film will make it. "I think it's different from what people expect a superhero movie to be," she explained. "Quote that! That's a quote because the tabloids will pick up everything else we talk about."
Will Sydney Sweeney join the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
With her role in the SSU, Sweeney was asked if she ever hopes her character will have an expanded role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Remaining hopeful, she gave a "coy yes" and took a long sip of her tea. She was then asked if she would have a stand-alone Spider-Woman move; she just shrugged and smiled knowingly.

Who is Julia Carpenter?
So, who is Julia Carpenter? She is a byproduct of an "athletic study" by her college friend Val Cooper. Unknowingly, she became a test subject in their experiments. She was accidentally injected with a mix of spider venom and exotic plant extracts, giving her superpowers like that of Spider-Man.
From there, she was named Spider-Woman and was drawn into the first Secret Wars. She then joined Freedom Force when she returned to Earth and ended up on the wrong side of the law. She left the group after helping the Avengers escape the vault.
Madame Web is scheduled to premiere on February 16, 2024. Though the box office returns for superhero films are going down, this movie may try to deliver, especially with the hype about Sweeney's character. However, fans may have high expectations after Sweeney said that it would be different from what a superhero movie should be.
