Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom has taken Japanese theaters by storm. In just three days following its September 20 release, animation studio Madhouse announced the isekai anime film had grossed an impressive 318 million yen ($2.22 million USD) on 198,000 admissions in its first 3-day weekend. Anime fans in North America (and other regions) have to wait a little longer before we can see our favorite skeletal Sorcerer King, Ainz Ooal Gown again —but in the meantime, we can enjoy the celebrations.
For a limited time (until September 29, a special video for Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom will be playing on the big screen at Shibuya Station near the Den-en-toshi line. The video features epic action-packed footages from the highly-anticipated movie, and previews the theme song WHEELER-DEALER by OxT. Watch the special video for the film below:
It was previously announced that Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom will be released in select theaters in North America and Canada on November 8, 2024. The anime film, which marks new theatrical release from the fan-favorite isekai series, will hit theaters in both Japanese with English subtitles and English dub. Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom continues the story of Mononga, following the events after Overlord Season 4.

What is Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom about?
Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom anime film is expected to adapt the arc featured in the 12th and 13th volumes of the light novel series written Kugane Maruyama and illustrated by so-bin, so that means the plot of the film will be canon. Sixteen volumes have been published by Enterbrain since July 2012, so we can expect the story to continue after the film adaptation.
Kadokawa shared a story description for Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom:
The first season of Overlord TV anime consisted of 13 episodes, and premiered in Japan in July 2015. Season 1 was made available to stream on Funimation as it broadcasted in Japan, and the company released en English dub of the anime on Blu-ray and DVD in November 2016. Overlord Season 2 premiered in January 2018 and concluded in April 2018. Crunchyroll streamed Season 2 as it broadcasted, and the English dub was streamed on Funimation. The third season premiered in July 2018, and Crunchyroll streamed Season 3 as it aired, with Funimation streaming the English dub of the series again. Season 4 of the anime premiered in July 2022, and Crunchyroll streamed both the original Japanese version (with English sub) and English dub of the series.
Isekai fans are also expecting that Kadokawa will announce Overlord Season 5, which hasn't officially been confirmed yet.
