Netflix has officially announced the coming of Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2 and Season 3, a piece of news that has brought joy to many. While the first season has already introduced a diverse cast of characters that have played a pivotal role in Aang’s journey as the Avatar, there's one character that fans have been eagerly anticipating—Toph Beifong. As the second installment is now in progress, the excitement is palpable as fans may finally witness the Earthbending master’s much-awaited live-action debut.

While Netflix has yet to confirm the new characters in Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2, there are strong indications that Toph will make an appearance. The series has been faithful to the original animated series, maintaining the same characters and tone. Therefore, it’s highly likely that it will feature the fan favorites, including Toph.

Interestingly, Toph was also introduced in the second season of the Nickelodeon series, a storyline that could be mirrored in the live action. Aang and his allies encountered Toph while visiting the Earth Kingdom to learn about Earth Bending as part of his journey to master all four elements of earth, water, air, and fire. Here, Aang recruited Toph as his teacher, recognizing her unique abilities.

Who is Toph Beifong in Avatar: The Last Airbender?

As mentioned above, Toph is an Earthbending master who is considered one of the most powerful of her time. However, being born blind made her constantly treated differently, especially by her overprotective parents, Lao and Poppy Beifong. Thankfully, with the help of the badgermoles, Earthbending animals also visually impaired, she learned how to use Earthbending as an additional part of her senses. This ability helps her to see through vibrations that pass through the ground.

Toph’s ability also helps her develop a tougher personality. She even uses it to win underground Earthbending tournaments, using the name The Blind Bandit to hide from her parents. Though initially refusing to join the war, she eventually agrees and leaves her old life behind to travel with Aang and his friends as his Earthbending teacher.

What to Expect from Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2

Netflix has yet to give any details about Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2, but fans aren’t short of theories as to what may happen next. As it may adapt the animated series Book Two: Earth, the live-action may see Aang, Katara, and Sokka on a journey to find an Earthbending teacher, which will see the introduction of Toph.

However, with the ongoing war, Appa is kidnapped, and the three friends go to Ba Sing Se, the Earth Kingdom’s capital. Here, they’re about to learn about a great internal government conspiracy. Elsewhere, after what happened in the first season, Fire Nation declares Zuko and Uncle Iroh as traitors, leaving the two deserting their country and becoming fugitives in the Earth Kingdom. So, this time, Princess Azula will look after both Zuko and Aang.
