Aang’s journey is far from over, as he still has to master all four elements of fire, water, earth, and air to face Fire Lord Ozai and the Fire Nation. Just two weeks after Netflix released the live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender to great success, the streamer already renewed the show for two more seasons. However, just like the original animated series, the live-action will end with the third season, concluding the epic story of the Avatar.
The two-season renewal doesn’t come as a surprise at all. Since the show debuted on February 22, it has been continuously dominating Netflix, topping its Global Top 10 (English) list with 21.2 million views in its first week and almost 20 million in its second week. It’s also the number-one series in 92 countries.
Anyhow, there are no words yet on when Avatar: The Last Airbender Seasons 2 and 3 will be released or the number of episodes they will have. But what is sure is it will continue where the first season left off, with Aang pursuing his destiny as the Avatar who will bring back the balance to the world.

What happened in Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 1?
Warning: Major spoilers ahead. Read at your own risk.
Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 1 ended with a battle between the Fire Nation and Water Tribe. Sure, Aang and his allies won the fight, but not without serious damage to the Northern Water Tribe. It was also part of Fire Lord Ozai’s plan to distract them from a larger war that was about to happen after Princess Azula successfully conquered Omashu and captured King Bumi as a prisoner. The mid-credits scene also featured the coming of Sozin’s Comet, a rare cosmic event that would incredibly increase the Fire Nation’s power.
Talking about the finale, Daniel Dae Kim, who plays Fire Lord Ozai, told Tudum that the writers did a good job of ending the first season with a major cliffhanger. He said the ending just hinted that the world of Avatar would continuously grow every season.
“And they really did a good job of that with that cliffhanger and also created a sense of urgency and time,” he added.
Kim admitted he had chills when he saw Azula and King Bumi in “shackles.” That said, it just made him want to start filming Avatar: The Last Airbender Seasons 2 and 3 “right now.”
What to Expect from Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2
Now that Pakku declares Katara the water master, she may start training Aang in Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2. There’s also a possibility that the two will work together to improve their waterbending abilities, as Katara still has to master other sub-skills. It may also see Azula continuing to please her father, while it may reveal what Prince Zuko will become after Commander Zhao makes a big revelation about his family.
In addition, as Sozin’s Comet is now on the horizon, Fire Lord Ozai and his soldiers will be unstoppable to continue the Hundred Year War and fulfill the plan to conquer the world. He may also hunt the traitors and failures of the Fire Nation.
Though the critics give the first season mixed reviews, it can’t be denied that a lot of fans, new and old alike, love the live-action adaptation. Hence, many are now looking forward to seeing Aang and the rest of his companions continue the fight in Avatar: The Last Airbender Seasons 2 and 3.
