Avatar: The Last Airbender Star Gordon Cormier Shares Hopes For A More "Joyful" Aang In Season 2

Although Season 2 of Avatar: The Last Airbender is expected to be darker as the war against the Fire Nation continues, Gordon Cormier hopes to see a more joyful Aang.

In February, Netflix released the live-action adaptation of Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko’s Avatar: The Last Airbender to great success. With the positive response, topping the streamer’s weekly global chart for two weeks with millions of hours of views, it was renewed for two more seasons after just less than a month. So, after Season 1 saw the dark tone of the series following the death of Gyatso and his fellow Air Nomads and the fight against the Fire Nation, Gordon Cormier shares his hopes for a more “joyful” Aang in Season 2.

In an interview with ComicBook, Cormier revealed that his character had already experienced a bit of darkness in the first season. Hence, in Avatar Season 2, he wanted a major change for Aang despite the threats coming his way as the war against the Fire Nation continued.

“In Season 2, hopefully, I'm going to get some more opportunities to be joyful and stuff,” he said. “I mean, they're both really great [seasons], so you get to see both sides of Aang.”

In the original animated series on Nickelodeon, the young Canadian actor understands that there is a lot of lighthearted filler material, which he hopes will be included in the Netflix series when it returns. While he's unsure how many episodes the second season will have, he’s looking forward to enjoying the best of both worlds, with action-packed scenes also being added.

“In the original series, we got to see a lot of the super joyful and filler stuff, which is dope,” he continued. “But with, I don't know how many episodes, I'm just assuming that they're going to have to pack it together.”

What To Expect From Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2

Aang and his friends might have achieved a Pyrrhic victory in the first season finale, but it was just a mere distraction from the larger war coming. Zuko’s sister, Princess Azula, conquered Omashu and took King Bumi as a prisoner. A mid-credit scene also revealed that Sozin’s Comet, a rare cosmic event, was coming, and it would be no good for the Fire Nation’s enemies.

This means Fire Lord Ozai and his people will be unstoppable as they continue the Hundred-Year War in Avatar Season 2. This may help them fulfill their plan to conquer the world and hunt the traitors and failures of the Fire Nation, including Prince Zuko.

The new season may also see the start of Aang’s water-bending training with the help of Katara. Pakku declares Katara as the new water master after showing off her great fighting abilities during the battle against Fire Nation. In addition, after Commander Zhao’s big revelation about Zuko’s family, a big change is about to happen to the Fire Nation prince.
