What is My Stepmother and Stepsisters Aren’t Wicked about?

The manga My Stepmother and Stepsisters Aren’t Wicked, written and illustrated by Otsuji, began serialization on November 19, 2020, in Ichijinsha’s Comic POOL section on the Pixiv Comic website. Since its debut, the series has garnered a dedicated following for its unique take on classic fairy tale tropes, blending comedy with heartfelt family dynamics. As of July 2025, the manga has released seven compiled volumes, with the eighth slated for publication on July 25, 2025, in Japan. Seven Seas Entertainment licenses the series in English, with the sixth volume released on June 17, 2025.

The story follows Miya Nakamura, a young girl who faces an uncertain future after a tragic loss. According to Seven Seas Entertainment, “Miya is the illegitimate child of a certain prominent family. When her mother dies, she’s convinced she knows what awaits her in her new home: a life of servitude and misery at the hands of her wicked stepmother and stepsisters! Yet when she finally meets the women she expects to treat her like dirt, they actually end up being…sweet?!” This subversion of the Cinderella narrative, combined with Miya’s struggles with social anxiety, creates a comedic and touching exploration of family bonds and personal growth.
