What is Mechanical Marie about?

Mechanical Marie, originally titled Kikaijikake no Marie in Japanese, began as a one-shot manga by Aki Akimoto in Hakusensha’s LaLa magazine in March 2020. Its popularity led to a full serialization starting in June 2020, which ran until June 2023, concluding with six published volumes. The manga has garnered attention for its quirky premise and engaging character dynamics, blending martial arts action with romantic comedy elements. Yen Press has licensed the manga for English release, with the first volume scheduled to be available on August 26, 2025. Following the original series’ conclusion, Akimoto launched a sequel manga, Kikaijikake no Marie+, in LaLa magazine on April 24, 2025, continuing the story of its beloved characters.

Yen Press provides the following description of the manga:

He was a boy. She was a girl…Can it be any more obvious? Actually, he’s not just a boy—he’s Arthur Louis Zetes, heir to the mega-rich Zetes conglomerate and a guy who absolutely despises humans. And so the powers that be had the wonderfully sane idea of hiring martial arts prodigy Marie as a robot maid and bodyguard against those with nefarious intentions for quite a tidy sum. Which is cool and all, except they forgot to mention one teensy, tiny detail…This guy dotes on inanimate objects like Marie can’t believe, so now she’s not sure which will kill her first—the assassins or his affections?!
