Marvel's iconic team of mutants might soon be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Today, a report from scooper Jeff Sneider claims that Marvel Studios is currently in the process of searching for a writer for its forthcoming X-Men reboot film. Sneider reports that two of the finalists for the X-Men reboot are Michael Lesslie and Rafe Judkins. According to the report, a decision is expected to be finalized by Memorial Day Weekend. However, at this point it's unclear if there are other writers in contention.
Lesslie is known for co-writing The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, directed by Francis Lawrence, as well as the upcoming Now You See Me 3. Judkins, meanwhile, served as writer and producer for various movie and television projects, including being a showrunner for Amazon Prime Video's The Wheel of Time, a supervising producer on Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, and as a co-writer of Sony's 2022 Uncharted movie.
X-Men Reboot Rumors
While Marvel Studios hasn't officially announced the forthcoming X-Men reboot movie, rumors about the project have recently circulated. According to scooper Holyfield News, the movie will be released after Avengers 5, which is currently scheduled to release in theaters on May 1, 2026. He claims that the reboot will take place in an alternate universe last seen in The Marvels (Earth-267).
His rumor tweet also mentioned that the Avengers and the X-Men are united as a team in this universe, and heroes in this universe came in contact with Kang before. Binary and Professor X are said to be the main focus of this universe with her Bangles being an important factor throughout the movie. Lastly, he noted that casting for the X-Men movie is expected to begin in 2025, months before production begins.
Note that this information is not officially confirmed by Marvel Studios and Disney, so treat this as a rumor. However, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige revealed that they're having "long and ongoing discussions" about the X-Men and their future in the MCU.
"You know how much I love the X-Men," Feige said in a 2021 interview with ScreenRant. "I already said that's where I started. I can't tell you anything before we actually announced it, but rest assured, the discussions have been long and ongoing internally."
