What is MARRIAGETOXIN about?

MARRIAGETOXIN is a manga series written by Joumyaku and illustrated by Mizuki Yoda, serialized on Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ platform since April 2022. It has garnered attention for its fresh take on action-romance, exploring themes of family duty, personal freedom, and the complexities of love in a world of professional killers.

The story centers on Hikaru Gero, heir to a powerful poison assassin clan, who has dedicated his life to mastering deadly arts while avoiding emotional attachments. However, when his family pressures his sister into an arranged marriage to continue the bloodline, Gero intervenes to protect her happiness. Determined to find a spouse himself and spare his sister, he seeks help from Mei Kinosaki, a skilled marriage swindler with expertise in manipulation and romance.

VIZ Media describes MARRIAGETOXIN as follows:

As a deadly assassin from the poison clan, Gero swears he’ll never settle down—that is, until the family orders his sister to produce the poison clan’s next heir. Refusing to let his sister abandon her chance at true love with her girlfriend, Gero desperately turns to marriage swindler Mei Kinosaki for relationship advice. Can Kinosaki turn this trained killer into a charming husband-to-be?

This premise sets up a series of comedic and dangerous missions, as Gero navigates dates, rival clans, and his own inexperience in matters of the heart. The manga's popularity stems from its balance of intense battles, witty dialogue, and progressive elements, including positive representation of LGBTQ+ relationships.
