Everyone's friendly neighborhood just gets better each time as Marvel's Spider-Man 2 arrived last October 20th and after the success of the release of the game, the main question now surrounds on whether there would be Marvel's Spider-Man 3 as the gamers crave for more. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 revolves around Peter Parker and Miles Morales as they struggle to navigate what comes next in their lives as their personal and hero lives converge. In the game, they will be encountering Kraven the Hunter and his private militia, and Venom who is an extraterrestrial symbiote attaching onto Peter which results to the latter being a destroyer of his personal ties. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is the third game of the installment and is a sequel to Marvel's Spider-Man and Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
Will there be a Marvel's Spider-Man 3?
To date, there is still no official announcement whether Marvel's Spider-Man 3 will happen but it is highly likely to happen considering the huge success of Marvel's Spider-Man 2. Currently, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 holds the title of the fastest first-selling title in the whole history of PlayStation as the game sold 2.5 million copies in just 24 hours! This all happened last October 20, 2023 where the critically acclaimed game released for PlayStation 5.
There are various reasons, however, that points to Marvel's Spider-Man 3 happening in the near future. First up is the conclusion of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 which is, no spoiler, sets up what comes next in the narrative which only another game could deliver. Speaking on the Friends Per Second podcast, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 creative director Bryan Intihar teased that the next game for the series would be something like the Infinity War from the MCU:
I think, if Spider-Man and Miles were our Iron Man , and Spider-Man 2 was like Civil War , where logically do we go from there? I think it’d be pretty epic.
Well, there wouldn't be a tease without a plan for it, right? More or less, this is indicative that Marvel's Spider-Man 3 is happening because Insomniac Games already used the same tactic in the previous releases where what is next is already teased. However, with Insomniac Games working on a Wolverine game, if and when there would be Marvel's Spider-Man 3, it won't happen until after Marvel's Wolverine game comes out.
Second is that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has post-credits scenes which hints that there may be Marvel's Spider-Man 3 happening next and that the game franchise is going forward. Third is the huge success of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 which could bring in more profitability to the development of another installment in the game series. Still, the best guarantee will always be an official announcement from Insomniac Games but yes, the hints will do for now. If the game series would be renewed for another go, Marvel's Spider-Man 3 could happen around 2026 to 2027, depending on the pace of the development of the game and on the release of Marvel's Wolverine.
