Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 developer Insomniac Games recently expressed their interest in creating a Venom spin-off if the fans want it. We’ve already seen plenty of Peter Parker and Miles Morales in Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, although that still might not be enough for people.
With Venom’s addition to the latest game, fans are talking about a completely separate spin-off for the alien symbiote. During an interview with Insider, Insomniac Games’ senior narrative director Jon Paquette stated that the team isn’t yet prepared to think about the next game in the franchise, especially since Spider-Man 2 just came out today.
However, they will wait first and see how players react to the sequel. When asked about the possibility of a spin-off featuring Venom, who is a major villain in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Paquette said:
"So, here's what we're doing. We're focused on Spider-Man 2, and what we're gonna do is we're gonna wait to see how the fans react. We're gonna listen to the fans and we're gonna ask ourselves: 'Okay, what do the fans really want?' We'll kind of talk about stuff after we've all had time to sleep and take vacations."
From the looks of it, Insomniac Games is all for spin-off games that mention the side stories of different characters. Spider-Man: Miles Morales launched before Spider-Man 2 and after the original Spider-Man, and is a small entry compared to the rest with similar gameplay and a condensed story with less side content.
Although players are just purchasing Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 today, Paquette is convinced that fans are going to love the Venom elements. He said, "I want this to be one of the best Venom stories you've ever experienced." Insomniac plans to support the game for some time before moving to their next video game.
Spider-Man 2 is also set to release a New Game Plus mode by the end of the year on top of some other new features. The developers are also busy working on another Marvel project in Wolverine, but not much is known or said about that ever since its announcement in 2021. Insomniac’s development timeline is also unclear, so we aren’t sure whether they will develop and release Wolverine before another Spider-Man game.
Is Venom a playable character in Spider-Man 2?
Venom is indeed a playable character in Spider-Man 2, but unlike Peter Parker and Miles Morales players can't switch to the symbiote. Similar to the original Spider-Man game, players can sometimes take control of other characters for a short time. He can only be played in just one mission (but we won't spoil the game by telling you which one), and even then there are some limitations in the way players can control him.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is now available to play exclusively on PlayStation 5.
