Marvel's First Family has always been a fan-favorite in the comics and to date, two attempts were already made in the past to bring the team to life, in 2005 with two films, and in 2015 which received a negative reception. Thankfully, after Disney acquired 21st Century Fox, the Marvel titles from the latter can now finally jump into the MCU and this gives Fantastic Four a reboot. With this comes the arrival of the Silver Surfer. However, the character may not be what everyone expected as it would reportedly be gender-bent.
This is not the first time that a gender-bent character would happen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the most recent project of the MCU, The Marvels, the villain Dar-Benn has been gender-swapped and played by Zawe Ashton when in the comics, the character is a male Kree. Now, it seems that the MCU will continue the trend and bring another gender-swapped villain with the Silver Surfer in the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot.
In a new report from Hollywood scooper Jeff Sneider through theinsnieder.com, the insider suggested that the fans may see a different version of the live-action adaptation of the Silver Surfer in the Fantastic Four reboot saying, "And yes, you can expect to see a female Silver Surfer." While this remains to be confirmed by anyone working in the project or Marvel Studios, one cannot discount the possibility that it might be true, too. Other scoops from the same report are Pedro Pascal being Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby possibly playing Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn could be Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach may portray The Thing but nothing has been confirmed yet.
Who is the Silver Surfer in Fantastic Four?
In the comics, Silver Surfer is originally known as an astronomer named Norrin Radd from Planet Zenn-La. When the devourer of worlds, Galactus, attacked his home, the Silver Surfer saved everyone by sacrificing himself as the herald of Galactus where he got a sliver of the Power Cosmic of the latter. He is best known as a character who rides a similar surfboard while travelling faster than light. In the end, he betrayed Galactus through saving Earth but, again, he paid the price by being exiled.
