Just a few months after Deadpool & Wolverine was released in theaters and broke box office records, star Ryan Reynolds is getting the team back together for a new project. Reynolds officially confirmed that he will reunite with his Deadpool & Wolverine co-star Hugh Jackman and director Shawn Levy in a new film, but don't expect this to be another superhero team-up as the Deadpool actor revealed that the project is non-Marvel.
During an interview with Variety on the outlet's Awards Circuit podcast, Reynolds revealed that he's currently writing a script for the film that he hopes will reunite him with Jackman and Levy.
“I’m spending the year writing,” Reynolds told the outlet. “I’m writing a movie for myself, Hugh [Jackman] and Shawn [Levy] to do that is not Marvel.”
The 48-year-old actor didn't share any information for his upcoming film, so the title and plot details are still under wraps. But he did confirm that it will have anything to do with the Merc with a Mouth and the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The newly-announced project is the latest of Reynolds and Levy's collaboration in their long-standing relationship. Levy collaborated with Jackman on 2011's sci-fi film Reel Steel, and prior to Deadpool & Wolverine, Reynolds and Levy collaborated on the 2021 action film Free Guy and 2022's science fiction comedy film The Adam Project.
The trio has become even closer since the box office success of Deadpool & Wolverine, the R-rated MCU team-up that paid homage to 20th Century Fox's X-Men movies. The trio also spent the weekend together at a Q&A for the MCU film. "Did that weekend happen? Loved being back with my guys talking about the thing we made together," Levy shared on Instagram on Monday, November 4, along with photos of him with Reynolds and Jackman.
The upcoming film sounds exciting, but fans will have to wait some time before it's released. According to Reynolds, he'll be spending 2025 working on the script, so the mystery project may not begin production until 2026.
