The highly anticipated anime film Zombie Land Saga: Yumeginga Paradise has revealed its main trailer and key visual, igniting excitement for its theatrical release in Japan on October 24, 2025. Directed by Takafumi Ishida and Takeru Satō at Studio MAPPA, the film promises to deliver a cosmic twist to the beloved zombie idol franchise. The trailer introduces a new song by the in-story idol group Franchouchou, titled Matataku Sora ni Akogarete (Yearning for the Twinkling Sky), setting the stage for a thrilling blend of music, sci-fi, and the series’ signature humor.

The main visual features Franchouchou’s members in their iconic zombie forms, with Tae Yamada taking center stage, wielding a gun and exuding determination. Alongside her are her fellow zombie idols—Sakura Minamoto, Saki Nikaido, Ai Mizuno, Junko Konno, Yugiri, and Lily Hoshikawa—joined by their eccentric producer Kōtarō Tatsumi and the zombie canine Romero. The backdrop hints at a chaotic, space-themed setting, teasing the high-stakes adventure awaiting fans. A special Galaxy Premiere Completion Screening is scheduled for September 28, 2025, at Shinjuku Wald 9 in Tokyo, where the voice cast, including Kaede Hondo (Sakura), Kotono Mitsuishi (Tae), and others, will appear on stage.

The film’s staff brings back key talent from the Zombie Land Saga series. Shigeru Murakoshi, known for The Seven Deadly Sins: Four Knights of the Apocalypse, pens the screenplay, while Fumihide Sai, Jinshichi Yamaguchi, and Kasumi Fukagawa handle character designs. Yasuharu Takanashi returns to compose the music, ensuring the film retains the vibrant energy of the original series. Additionally, a Zombie Land Saga: Yumeginga Paradise Franchouchou The Best Paradise album, featuring 19 tracks—including four new songs from the movie—will be released on October 29, 2025.

The Story of Zombie Land Saga: Yumeginga Paradise

Zombie Land Saga: Yumeginga Paradise continues the saga of Franchouchou, the undead idol group formed to revitalize Saga Prefecture. The film introduces a cosmic narrative, thrusting the zombie idols into a space-themed spectacle at the 2025 Saga Expo. The trailer hints at a thrilling conflict involving an alien invasion, with Tae Yamada awakened to lead her fellow idols in a battle that blends their signature performances with science-fiction action. Expect a wild mix of idol cuteness, extraterrestrial chaos, and the heartfelt struggle of these undead girls to protect their dreams and their home. This marks the franchise’s first major cinematic outing in four years, promising an unconventional “Saga Fight” that stays true to the series’ quirky spirit while embracing a galactic scale.

A Legacy of Zombie Idol Madness

The Zombie Land Saga franchise began with its first season in October 2018, a collaboration between MAPPA, Avex Pictures, and Cygames. The series follows Sakura Minamoto, a high school girl with idol aspirations, who is tragically killed by a truck and resurrected as a zombie by Kōtarō Tatsumi. He recruits her into Franchouchou, a group of zombie girls from various eras of Japanese history, tasked with saving Saga Prefecture through their idol performances. As Crunchyroll describes:

A typical morning. The usual music. Their normal lives. The peace these seven girls experience will suddenly be destroyed. By the living dead... zombies. A reality that they never wanted a part of, an amazing and terrifying zombie world. They all share one wish: “We want to live.” These girls will struggle through this saga, in order to achieve a miracle. MAPPA, Avex Pictures, and Cygames team up to bring you a juicy, 100% original anime. A timeless shocker for all audiences, a brand new style of zombie anime, will soon rise.

The first season, streamed by Crunchyroll with an English dub by Funimation, was followed by Zombie Land Saga Revenge in April 2021. The series also inspired a stage play, Zombie Land Saga Stage de Do-n!, in 2020, and two manga adaptations: one mirroring the anime’s story and a spinoff, Zombie Land Saga Gaiden: The First Zombie, focusing on Tae’s past. With Yumeginga Paradise, the franchise ventures into new territory, blending its heartfelt narrative with an ambitious sci-fi adventure.
